First win for Neil Hampton in Cape Town

Cape Town players were back in action on Sunday with a good field of 7 players competing in a league format. Congratulations to Neil Hampton for his very first win, only just though on goal difference from John Fishlock while Clinton Gahwiler was third.

Congratulations to our friends in South Africa for their continuous work to try to develop the game. The different clubs in Johannesburg also had some small events in the last few weeks. Full results can always be found in the WASPA results files, which had monthly updates.

Claudio Colpani wins the first stage of a new circuit in Italy

A great tournament took place in Brescia North of Italy.  An extremely hot sunny day with over 33° , have seen six mad Men for Subbuteo challenging an Endurance formula tournament with Old Subbuteo rules.

About 6 hours performance, 10 rounds, two time 15 minutes each, with only pit stops after each time and games for changing tables, polishing the bases and filling the tank with some water. The formula awarded each player reaching the 10th round on his leg.

A formula with no referees, provides throwing the dice in case of dispute. A great fair play among the payers and not a single use of dice.

Congratulations to  Federico Milan, Roberto Piccoli and Lorenzo Rocca (Subbuteo Verona), Pietro Torri (Vecchia Talpa Fidenza), Vittorio de Pascale (Ligures Genova) and Claudio Colpani (Papata Ponticino) the organizer of the “IV W.A.S.P.A. Lombardia Challenge Endurance Cup”.

Thanks to City of Brescia for hosting the event, to Basi Graziano for providing tables and equipment, to W.A.S.P.A for authorizing event under his banner. At the end of the day, a Belgian beer to award and refresh all the challengers.

Final standings:

1. Claudio Colpani (Papata Group Ponticino)
2. Vittorio de Pascale (Ligures Genova)
3. Federico Milan (Subbuteo Verona 2016)
4. Pietro Torri (Vecchia Talpa Fidenza)
5. Roberto Piccoli (Subbuteo Verona 2016)
6. Lorenzo Rocca (Subbuteo Verona 2016)

Fred Elesbao wins monthly event in Hamburg

WASPA Sankt Pauli - Tuesday 7th June

Maybe it was the beautiful weather but there was smaller turnout than usual at Subbbuteo Sankt Pauli with just 5 players competing for the monthly prize. Fred topped the table with four wins to add to his WASPA collection, with Simon finishing 2nd after missing 6 weeks due to illness. Marius rolled in third courtesy of two wins over 4th placed Dimitrios and 5th placed Ralf.

We will do it all again next month but please be aware our clubnight is every Tuesday at the Fanladen and we‘d love to see you there!

Mick Hammonds wins Wolverhampton tournament

16 Players contested The Wolverhamton TFC June WASPA event, held at The Claregate Pub yesterday. A great mix of players, including 3 of the country's top junior players, battled it out for supremacy. In the main event, the final was played between Aaron Skinner and Wolves player, Mick Hammonds. It was a fantastic end to end game of very high quality play. Mick eventually ran out the winner 4-2.

In the Plate final, we saw a repeat of an earlier group game between the experienced Mike Bradbury and the talented Wolves Junior Gage Badger. Gage had won the earlier game 2-1. Mike showed his experience in the final though, winning the game 3-0.

A big thank you to all that attended and played out a very enjoyable event. Thanks also to the Claregate staff who were fantastic as always. If you are interested in playing in next months event, please drop a message.

Champion's League tournaments in Greece

Our friends from Greece, the Flaming Flickers based in Kallithea, recently held a double tournament with 20 players taking part. The event was special with 2 categories. In the FISTF rules tournament, 8 players were taking part and Vaggelis Giantais defeated Vassilis Dragossis (3-1) to claim the title. Mike Tastsoglou and organizer Panos Panagiotides were the other semi-finalists.

Int he "old rules" tournament, Vaggelis Scotiniotis managed to beat Makis Kazatzoglou in the final after the shootout while the semi-finalists were Antonis Krysilas and Manos Daskaladis.

The "Champion's League" tournament was made special by the fact players were wearing the jersey of their favorite football team.

Geoffrey Marain and David Wouters still on fire

The 16 competitors

Two events have been held in Belgium in the last few days. In Templeuve, the monthly tournament was held on Sunday with a great field of 16 players. It was a really special event as the local group had the visit of long-time clubmate Erza Aripin from Singapore. Due to the special circumstances, several players decided to travel to Templeuve to say hello to Erza. The tournament was played in Swiss System and after 5 sessions Geoffrey Marain was once again the winner. More importantly everyone had a great time and it was nice also to see some old faces coming back to the game after a long absence.

WASPA records as per May 2022

Dear friends, you will find in the attached files the updated WASPA rankings as per May 2022.

Players in Derry, Northern Ireland

We had 33 tournaments played under WASPA banner last month. We will add 2 events held in greece (results arrived a bit late) next month.

Don't hesitate to run tournaments under the WASPA banner. It's a great way to promote your club, to attract new players and to create local or regional development and we all agree this is what the games needs nowadays.

A great turnout in Sydney, Australia

England was once again the most active nation with 13 tournaments held in May. Australia (4) and Belgium (6) were the other most active nations but it's great to see events held also in Wales, Northern Ireland, Germany, Italy, South Africa and Singapore. The Italian club of SC Valponte held their first WASPA tournament and we are glad to see them in the circuit!

Well, no need to comment more. Hope you enjoy the files.

A great field at the Solent tournament in England

All your ideas to make the WASPA circuit more attractive are more than welcome. Don't hesitate to send your feedback. We also hope to see more and more clubs running events under the WASPA banner in the future.
