WASPA records of September 2019

Dear all, you will find here the updated WASPA records after the tournaments held in September.

WASPA Season results 2019-2020
WASPA ranking - September 19

Action in Colorado where players from different States met for a great week-end
We had 34 regional events, 1 promotional tournament and the National Cup in Derry, Northern Ireland. We will add the missing results from Pireas next month.
As this is a new season, there are some changes in the different tables:
- the Season ranking starts from scratch. Brian Daley is the first leader of the season.
- the Junior ranking is now for players born in 2003 or later (instead of 2002). Olliver Ollnow is still the leader.
- the top clubs ranking has a few less clubs as some clubs have been relegated in the "Development league". It is possible for new clubs to require to play in the WASPA top clubs sections (see handbook for details or drop me a line). London Road Subbuteo Club from Wales is the first leader of the ranking.
- the new Development league saw 12 different clubs taking ranking points. The Greek club of Panorama 1978 SC Thessaloniki is the first leader but we will have a wonderful season for sure. Any club organising 3 events and having 5 different players will be included in the Development league.

All-Ireland championship in Derry
As for September, we had some great events taking part.
- the tournament in Bormla (Malta) had a great turnout of 20;
- Australia was very active as always with events in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
- South Africa is doing a great job with events in Pretoria and Cape Town in the records.
- We are happy to see Germany having events organized by three different clubs in Berlin and Hamburg.
- Canada having regular events in Toronto is very positive!
- Greece always have great tournaments with many players.
- Singapore had two events including one for beginners.
- Belgium had only three events this month but with many close games to decide the winners.
- England, Wales and Northern Ireland do a great job also with some new players involved as well.
- We also had some presence in the US (Colorado, California and Virginia), Russia (St. Petersburg), Finland (Helsinki) and Italy (Borgo Vercelli).

Western Flickers tournament in Melbourne (Australia)
For the new season, we are always open to new ideas to see how we can make the circuit more attractive. All suggestions are welcome.

Well, that's all for now. Please remember you only need 3 players to register your tournament. Don't be scared to join. It's free and tournament requests can be sent by e-mail to vincent.cop@rsca.com

Keep an eye on the WASPA blog at http://waspa-circuit.blogspot.com as there are updates almost every day.

Official statement: Updated Handbook and Season Report 2018-2019

Dear all, you will find in this e-mail two attach files with:
- the updated Handbook for the new season
- the Season report 2018-2019

To be noted there are no major changes in the Handbook but please keep in mind:
- Juniors are now players born in 2003 or later (for the Junior ranking);
- There is now a "Development League" for clubs to make the "Top Clubs" system more attractive. We will see at the end of the season if the new system is working or not.

As for the season report, the file is full of details and statistics. I hope you will like it. My personal feelings are as follows:
- some nations are very active and do a fantastic job. They have understand that the WASPA circuit is a good way to promote the game. Australia has had great developments but we see also many good things happening in the UK, in particular in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Greece has a some new clubs involved and many WASPA events have very good turnouts.
- Belgium has a few regular clubs who really do a great job of promotion and development.
- We are very happy to see South Africa being part of the show with regular events in Pretoria and Cape Town and a few events in Johannesburg.
- The US and Canada are still involved and there are a few very active clubs in North America.
- There was less activity in nations like Cyprus, Hungary, Austria and Scotland last season but hopefully there will be more in 2019-2020.
- Germany had a few tournaments in the last few months but we hope to see different regions continuing to work with WASPA events, in particular in Berlin, Hamburg, the West (Kamen area) and the South (Munchen area).
- There was a revival in the Netherlands with 4 events under WASPA banner this season and hopefully more coming up.
- It's very hard to get WASPA events in Italy. We had 10 last season, which is not to bad but Italy has such a huge potential that it remains disappointing.
- Some small Subbuteo nations like Finland and Ireland organize tournaments from times to times and we are very happy about it.
- Spain had probably the biggest event of the season with Carlos Flores and Alberto Mateos taking part. Quality more than quantity and that's all good.
- Singapore remains a force in the WASPA circuit with more than 20 events held last season.
- Unfortunately there was no activity anymore in countries such as Portugal, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Gibraltar, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, New Zealand and all over South America. We stay at your disposal for any question regarding the circuit and how we can relaunch something.
- Thanks to the WASPA circuit some nations appear in the ranking of nations this season. We are glad to see several African countries fielding players (Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania) while some European nations such as Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Serbia and Slovenia have players involved as well.

Well, I hope you enjoy the file and I stay at your disposal for any question.

Thanks once again to all players, clubs and associations who supported the WASPA circuit over the last season. Hopefully we can continue to grow in the future!

I wish you a great season.

WASPA report of August 2019

Dear all,
you will find in the attached files the final standings of the WASPA circuit season 2018-2019.

WASPA Season results 2018-2019
WASPA ranking - August 19

August was a bit calmer than the previous months but we had 21 events held in many different countries.
Brian Daley (left) is our new number 1
The big news of the month come from England where Brian Daley becomes the new number 1 in the WASPA ranking. Geoffrey Marain has been on top for seven years but it seems like it's time for a new era.

Brian is also the season champion while the Flaming Flickers (Greece) are dominating once again the "top clubs" rankings.

Great job by our Australian folks as the Northern Falcons (Sydney) and the Western Flickers (Melbourne) take the first two spots in the Junior club ranking.

A great tournament in Munich, Germany
August saw Australia being very active once again with six different tournaments held in different cities (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth).

There were also sad news as Belgium's Michaël Roberty took part in the latest event n Bande but passed away a few days later. He will remain in our memories forever. RIP Michaël!

We were glad to see action in Austria, Hungary, South Africa while the Wrexham club is growing and held another event in August.

Alex Haas winner in Vienna, Austria
There were two events in Greece with amazing turnouts of 16 and 32 players while in Germany the Munich tournament attracted 10 players and the format of the event was a league system so that every player had nine games!

Maybe a few results are missing in the PDF file. If you see missing data, please get in touch so that I can correct the files.

If some juniors (born in 2002 or later) don't appear in the ranking, it means we don't have their birthdates so please send your feedback. Please not from next month the Junior ranking will be for players born in 2003 or later!
Western Flickers tournament in Australia
We really hope to have more "top clubs" involved for the new season; If you have ideas to improve the different rankings, please drop me a line.

Well, that's all for now. Please remember you only need 3 players to register your tournament. Don't be scared to join. It's free and tournament requests can be sent by e-mail to vincent.cop@rsca.com

Brian Daley is the new number 1

The final WASPA rankings for the season 2018-2019 should be published on Monday as a few details are still to finalize but we can proudly announce that we have a new world number 1 in the individual ranking. Brian Daley from England is indeed the leader of the overall ranking. We can also congratulate Geoffrey Marain who has been on top of the ranking for seven years. Geoffrey has been and remains a real ambassador of the game.

Congratulations also to Olliver Ollnow from Australia who finishes the season as Junior number 1. Olli will have a new challenge in his Subbuteo carrer as he recently moved to Berlin, Germany and we hope he will continue to be a real ambassador of the game. Olli's club, the Northern Falcons from Sydney, managed to remain on top of the Junior team ranking and more importantly Australia managed to have 2 teams on top as the Western Flickers from Melbourne did a great job as well.

We would also love to congratulate the Flaming Flickers from Greece who are on top of the "top clubs" ranking for the second year in a row.

We are looking forward to have a great season 2019-2020 and all your ideas to make the WASPA circuit more attractive remain more than welcome.

WASPA records in the end of July 2019

Dear all, you will find in the attached files the WASPA standings at the end of July. Sorry for the low activity on the WASPA blog and the social networks but it's summer time here :-)

WASPA ranking - July 19
WASPA Season results 2018-2019

Another big turnout in Greece
July was another good month with 27 regional tournament and 1 tournament with old rules. Australia was very active once again with 7 tournaments held in many different areas while there was less activity than usual in some other nations and the heat wave in Europe can explain it. By and large we have had tournaments in Europe, Oceania, Asia, North America and Africa so we remain a global circuit.

You will not see many changes in the rankings but the highlight of the month is Brian Daley being now on top of the season ranking. Congratulations but there is one month left to go to decide who will be the season winner.

Great fun in Liverpool
Maybe a few results are missing in the PDF file. If you see missing data, please get in touch so that I can correct the files.

If some juniors (born in 2002 or later) don't appear in the ranking, it means we don't have their birthdates so please send your feedback.

Well, that's all for now. Please remember you only need 3 players to register your tournament. Don't be scared to join. It's free and tournament requests can be sent by e-mail to vincent.cop@rsca.com

WASPA report of June 2019

Dear all,
you will find in the attached file the updated rankings, statistics and results of the WASPA circuit. Thanks to all players and clubs who contribute to make history month after month.

WASPA Season results 2018-2019
WASPA ranking - June 19

Carlos Flores wins WASPA tournament held in Alicante, Spain
Here are some facts about what happened in June:
- we added 40 more tournaments in the records;
- we have reached 3500 different players in the database (players who have at least played one WASPA tournament since the launch of the circuit);
- we have reached the 2000 WASPA regional tournaments;
- Jeremiah Sanya from Uganda has played in the recent tournament in Cape Town so we have now 50 different nations in the ranking (players from 62 nations have played since the launch of the circuit);
- The fight for the title of "top club of the year" is very close between Northern Falcons TFC (Australia), Flaming Flickers SC (Greece) and London Road Subbuteo Club (Wales) with just a few points difference between the three of them with two months left to go to decide the winner;
- Australians dominate the Junior rankings, which proves once again Europeans have a lot to learn from what's being down Down Under;
- Romania's Cezar Stoilescu took advantage of his work trip in Belgium to play several WASPA tournaments;
- Hungary held their first tournament of the season to celebrate the visit of Sven Schilling (Germany);
- a great WASPA tournament was played during the Asian Cup in Singapore with players from Australia, Singapore and Japan;
- Northern Ireland's Simon Stewart is moving to Hamburg (Germany) and will hopefully become an ambassador of the WASPA circuit in Germany;
- in Spain the tournament in a shopping mall in Odara, Alicante had some special guests with former FISTF world champions Carlos Flores and Alberto Mateos taking part;
- The Masters tournament in Bagworth (England) had good games over two days and a very high level of play and great winners (Elliot Bellefontaine and Chris Thomas);
- The Dutch National Cup was played by 20 players. Besides Maikel de Haas being crowded in the main event, there were also tournaments for ladies and juniors;
- The Stoke on Trent tournament was a success. The event played with advanced rules had a great field of 29 entries!
Players in Budapest, Hungary
Maybe a few results are missing in the PDF file. If you see missing data, please get in touch so that I can correct the files.

Torben Pfister wins Asian cup WASPA tournament
For next season a few projects are already in the books so your feedback is more than welcome to see how we can achieve this:
- how to get more "top clubs" in the ranking section;
- to create a junior ranking of nations.

Richard Stock wins in Stoke for the third time in a row
If some juniors (born in 2002 or later) don't appear in the ranking, it means we don't have their birthdates so please send your feedback.

Well, that's all for now. Please remember you only need 3 players to register your tournament. Don't be scared to join. It's free and tournament requests can be sent by e-mail to vincent.cop@rsca.com

- several events have been held in Wales;
- another event in Angri (Italy) run by the club of Castello Doria CT;

Hermann Kruse wins an emotional AGFA Cup in Australia
Special thanks to the organizers of FISTF events who support our circuit by organizing consolation events or small events during their week-end. We enjoyed being present in FISTF tournaments in Michigan, Belgium and Australia in May.

WASPA records of March 2019

Dear all, here are the WASPA rankings of March 2019 with updated statistics and records of the events added in the archives.

WASPA ranking - March 19
WASPA Season results 2018-2019

In March we had a lot of events: 43 regional events, 1 tournament with the old rules, 4 promotional tournaments.

Northern Phoenix tournament in Australia
We had once again a great work together with the FISTF organizers of the Major of Frameries and the Grand Prix of England but also the Satellite of Huy and the Singapore Open.

In Hamburg, Germany the St. Pauli club had an amazing tournament with 20 players and everyone had 6 games played in Swiss system and we were pleased to have Danish players taking part but also some players from Northern Ireland and England. Besides this event, there was also a small tournament in Berlin played under WASPA banner.

Tournament in Thessaloniki (Greece)
Cyprus we on fire with 3 events. 9, 23 and 18 players were taking part. The great news is that many juniors took part, many of them now appear in the WASPA ranking of Juniors but also three clubs from Cyprus appear in the Junior ranking of clubs!

South Africa had 2 events and it was a pleasure to see England's Justin Finch paying a visit to the Cape Town club.

Subbuteo players in Virginia (USA)
The Netherlands sent us the results of the big league held in Gouda with 10 players taking part and some good players among the competitors. All ideas to revive the game in the Netherlands deserve support!

We are always pleased to see many clubs in Australia, Greece, Belgium, Singapore and in the UK supporting the WASPA circuit. These nations do a good job.

A good day of subbuteo in Vercelli, Italy
The 69ers club held their second tournament under WASPA banner in Vercelli, Italy and they had a great turnout of 18 players with 6 juniors among them.

Malta, the US, Ireland, Spain and Canada also had some WASPA events and we were glad to see the first tournament of the season in Helsinki, Finland with possible another event to be played on April 28.

Huge field of 20 players in Hamburg, Germany
As for the rankings, there are no many changes. Congratulations to Martinog Bradley for reaching the top 10.

We are sad that we lost Switzerland in the ranking of nations but hopefully they will be back soon.

The Flaming Flickers SC are still on top of the Top Clubs rankings and the Northern Falcons have the best juniors.

Justin Finch paid a visit to Cape Town players in South Africa
In case some results are missing, please don't hesitate to drop me a line!

Subbuteo action in the Netherlands
If some juniors (born in 2002 or later) don't appear in the ranking, it means we don't have their birthdates so please send your feedback.

Well, that's all for now. Please remember you only need 3 players to register your tournament. Don't be scared to join. It's free and tournament requests can be sent by e-mail to vincent.cop@rsca.com

Keep an eye on the WASPA blog as there are updates almost every day.

WASPA monthly records of January 2019

Dear all, you will find in the attached files the updates records of the WASPA circuit after the tournaments held in January.

WASPA ranking - January 19
WASPA Season results 2018-2019

We have added 28 events in the records (26 regional, 1 promo, 1 old rules) + some records of the NETFA mini-leagues and from the Dutch league.
First event held int he premises of the Roligans in Greece
Welcome to the Roligans (Greece) in the group of WASPA organizers. We hope they will host more tournaments in the future.

We are also glad to see the first tournament of the season took place in California last week.

Having a quick look on the WASPA season after 5 months, it's sometimes hard to understand why some nations are not involved. We have already seen WASPA tournaments in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, England, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, the Netherlands, the United States of America and Wales.
A good day of play for the Western Flickers in Australia
Among the nations who held tournaments in the past, we have no news from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Hungary, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Switzerland.

We are aware that there will be at least events in Germany (2 in the agenda for sure) and Hungary (1 in the agenda) but I'm curious to know why the other nations don't run WASPA tournaments. Is there a reason in particular or is it just a lack of interest for the game in general? Is there something against WASPA or just a lack of organizers? Is it a problem of communication or just different priorities from national associations? Just trying to understand... Your feedback on how to develop the circuit is more than welcome!
Action at Attard SC in Malta
In the rankings, there is no major change but Alekos Apatzis from Greece is now number 3.
