Christophe Dheur winner in La Cave

The world famous HQ of Subbuteo Club Stembert called "La Cave" (see link on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1527136117349276) hosted a WASPA tournament on Friday evening. Due to the size of the room, the number of players was limited to six but it was no problem for hosts to fill the entry list.

A special guest from Germany, Pana Krommydas, was taking part and for him, it was a great opportunity to meet some of the best players from Eastern Belgium. After the five sessions, Christophe Dheur was the undisputed winner with 5 wins. Daniel Scheen was runner-up while Pascal Scheen took the third place. "La Cave" is one of the most active places on the Subbuteo planet with training sessions organized every week (and usually several times a week) but it was great to have games played under WASPA banner on friday! Thanks to the Stembert players for doing it and also for broadcasting games live on Facebook :-)

WASPA rankings of December and news

Dear Subbuteo friends,

WASPA rankings (click for link)

Players from different nationalities attended the Hannover tournament in Germany

As for the December rankings, we are pleased to publish the usual records. We had a lot of tournaments played under WASPA banner in the last few weeks. We added the National Championship held in Johannesburg, South Africa, 30 regional tournaments, 8 tournaments played with the old rules, one promotional event (only for juniors) and one tournament played with special rules (in Greece). 40 players atteded their very fist WASPA event and we are happy to see a growing individual ranking with 1075 ranked players. 537 players have played in the WASPA circuit since the beginning of the season and we also have 94 juniors in the records (if some players are "forgotten", just send me their birthdate).

It's also really exciting to see the different clubs doing their best to do well in the "Top clubs" and "Development League" tables. It's not surprise to see England dominating the ranking of nations. England is really the power of the WASPA circuit and a source of inspiration for other nations. Since the beginning of the season, 66 WASPA events have been held in England, which is amazing. Italy (20), Australia (15) and Belgium (13) are the other most active nations in the circuit.

The latest Templeuve tournament had a good tournament of 17 players

The WASPA circuit remains a very international affair. We had great tournaments in many different countries such as Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Greece. We also see growing interest for the tournaments played with old rules, which is appreciated.

Support for Israel

We have received a request from Israel to develop the game in the country. Here is the message we received: "The Israel Subbuteo and Table soccer association’s management is making a concerted effort to increase our membership and the number of players that still love, practice, play and follow the game worldwide. We are looking for players who may have played the “beautiful game” in their youth and may have left their native countries to settle in Israel. We would appreciate any help from our international partners who may know of and can inform us of any players who would be willing to enhance our efforts in developing our local Israel Subbuteo/ Table soccer league. Any information would be highly appreciated."

Help for the blog

You may have noticed it's really hard nowadays to publish reports of all tournaments on the WASPA blog. We are now looking for some help from one or two persons able to write some articles and publish them on the WASPA blog and also to share them on social networks. If you are interested, please send a message to vincentcoppenolle@gmail.com

National organizers

Some nations are doing an amazing job to develop WASPA tournaments and to recruit new players. Once again, I believe England must be a source of inspiration for other nations. We believe some other nations are trying to do great things but unfortunately the local projects are much too isolated. We are trying to find people ready to share their passion for the game and to be the link between the WASPA circuit and their national associations. We are looking in particular for national organizers in the following countries: France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Scotland, the US, Canada, Austria. Of course ideas to start something in a new country are also more than welcome as there are many nations with absolutely no Subbuteo activity nowadays. If you are interested, please send a message to vincentcoppenolle@gmail.com
