Kenny Beggs wins Ryan McBride Memorial Cup
Derry city TFC held the 2nd Ryan McBride Memorial Cup. It was played with old bases and to the old rules but that didn’t hold back the Legend, Kenny Beggs. Kenny topped his group and then for the second time in the tournament he faced off against Barry Spence, again coming away the victor to be crowned the Ryan McBride Champion. Mark McCrossan and Lawrence Watson made it to the semi-finals while Brendan Rodgers won the Plate tournament.

Alekos Apatzis wins old rules tournament
The Kallithea Flame club in Greece recently held a tournament played with the old rules. 16 players were taking part and the theme of the tournament was the Intertoto Cup. Alekos Apatzis defeated Panos Pangiotides in the final while Nikos Psomiadis and Christian Tsakalakis were the semi-finalists. Congratulations to the winner and thanks to the organizers!

Alekos Apatzis wins Gagarin Cup
The tournament was played with old subbuteo teams and old rules.
Players followed the teams of the 1963 greek championship and the winner this year was "PAOK" (Alekos Apatzis).
The team defeated "Aigaleo" (Vangelis Scotiniotis) in the final.
Congratulations to the winner and to all the participants for another great tournament with the old rules.

Alekos Apatzis wins Chile 1962 tournament
16 players from different clubs including 4 new WASPA entries competed with subbuteo teams and old rules in the Mundial Chile 1962. The event took place on Saturday, March 2.
Highlight of the event was the first WASPA tournament of the famous chef Ilias Skoulas and his sons Gregory and Dimitris.
There were many great games and people had a lot of fun. The winner was "CCCP" of Alekos Apatzis after a 2-1 win against "URUGUAY" of Franco Alfonso in the final.
Semi-finalists were BRAZIL of Christos Panagiotides and ENGLAND of Panagiotis Patistas. Congratulations to the winner for one more trophy and to all the participants for the great games.

Alekos Apatzis wins old Subbuteo tournament
Final winner was Alekos Apatzis who defeated Giorgos Pitihoutis (2-1) in the final. Nikos Liakopoulos and Panos Panagiotides made it to the semi-finals.

Serafeim Koulosousas wins Italia 90 event in Greece

Makis Koulosousas wins the Gagarin Cup
On Saturday, May 12, 12 subbuteo players from various clubs attended the 2nd Gagarin Cup, a tournament held in Kallithea. This event was organized by OSC Kallitheas Flame in the memory of Zacharias Pitihoutis, Greek National and Panathinaikos Athens player who passed away last May. He was the uncle of local club player Giorgos Pitihoutis and a member of the Panathinaikos Athens team that took the Greek Champions title in 1963 undefeated. He was a great player and a great personality that was loved by supporters of all teams. His nickname was "Gagarin" after the Russian astronaut because he was jumping too high for the headers and reminded the astronauts space jumps. The tournament was played with lightweight subbuteo equipment and the old rules and players followed the teams of the 1963 Greek Championship.Makis Koulosousas defeated Alekos Apatzis in the final to claim the victory!

Alekos Apatzis king of old rules
The club of OSC Kallithea Flame held a WASPA tournament with old rules on April 28 and there was a good field of 12 players. it was already the 13th tournament with old rules in Greece. the winner was Alekos Apatzis who defeated Giannis Mpougiouris (2-0) in the final. The event was played in a good spirit and with old equipment, which made it was a special day for everybody!

Ipswich and Sampdoria were eliminated in the semi-finals.

Alekos Apatzis still an old rules king
With a lot of last minute cancellations due to the bad weather, the 12th Greek Old Subbuteo WASPA tournament took place on Sunday December 3. The winner was Alekos Apatzis (Flaming Flickers) who won the final against Panos Panagiotides 4-3 on penalties while the game and extra-time ended in a 1-1 draw. Congratulations to the winner Alekos and to all the participants for the great games!

Christmas Cup in Derry
The Derry City TFC 2017 Christmas Cup was a great success. We played with old subbuteo bases and the advanced rules. Due to the snow we only had 8 players so played a league format. The table was close at the end and all came down to a crunch match between Paul Boyle and Lawrence Watson, with Lawerence needing a win to top the table and Paul only needing a draw. A match full of drama was ended in the final few minutes with a goal from Watson, giving him his first WASPA win.

Alekos Apatzis wins Argentina 1978
16 players revived the Mundial "Argentina 1978" using lightweight subbuteo equipment and old rules. The exact groups and format of the competition were followed and the players brought back to action the original national subbuteo teams and tango balls. Even the secret message of the black bands on the goalposts was recreated (read the real story here). It was a great tournament and the winner was "Argentina" of Alekos Apatzis who won the final against "Hungary" of Giorgos Pitihoutis after the penalty shootout.

Nikolaos Papadogonas wins old rules tournament
Old rules and equipment were used and the winner was Nikolaos Papadogonas (Pireas Lions) after a close final against "Flaming Flicker" Panos Panagiotides.

Subbuteo party at the Overtime Festival
Last Sunday the club of Macerata (Italy) organized a tournament with old rules during the "Overtime Festival", a festival for the books and sports ethics. 8 players were taking part, playing a group stage so that everyone had 7 games and then semi-finals and finals. Alberto Gagliardi defeated Mario Marcolini in the final to win the tournament. Daniele Tombolini, an international football referee, presented the trophies to the winners. Congratulations to Alberto and the Macerata boys for their great efforts to promote old rules within the WASPA circuit.

A first victory for Sotiris Korologos
12 players from various clubs competed this Sunday during the 10th WASPA Greek Old rules Subbuteo tournament, organized by Flaming Flickers at Kallithea Athens. There were many great games, a lot of penalties and the winner was Sotiris Korologos, currently member of the Italian club Serenissima Mestre, who won the title in his first appearance.

Alberto Gagliardi takes the Summer Cup
Last Friday the "WASPA Summer Cup" took place in Macerata, Italy. The tournament was organized by the local Macerata Subbuteo Club and attracted a nice turnout of 8 players. who competed in Swiss system and with the old rules. After 5 games, Alberto Gagliardi finished on top with 9 points, while Stefano Gambella was runner-up. Paolo Guidara took the third place. Congratulations to all the players for the great evening.

Vangelis Scotiniotis wins old rules event
19 players from various clubs competed last Sunday morning for the 1st Gagarin Cup.The tournament was held in the memory of Zacharias Pitihoutis, Greek National and Panathinaikos Athens player that passed away this year in May.

Win 3 points, draw 2 points and loss 1 point was the system used back then. Winner was Vangelis Scotiniotis who defeated Leonidas Koutrouanos (2-1) in the final. Congratulations to the winner and to all the participants.
The Flaming Flickers will now have a tournament played with the old rules on July 25.

The George Best trophy for Alberto Gagliardi
The 6th edition of the "Trofeo Subbuteo George Best" took place on Saturday in Tolentino (Italy) and was organized by the club of Macerata. This tournament played with the old rules had a good turnout of 15 players with a majority of players from the home clubs but also representatives from Giulianova and Ancona. After the group stage played in three groups of five, the tournament was decided in knock-out games. Alberto Gagliardi (Macerata) defeated clubmate Mario Marcolini to win the title. Adriano Iobbi (Giulianova) and Alessandro Battistoni (Ancona) reached the semi-finals.
