๐ŸŒ Brisbane Special Rules Tournament (Australia) - 18 July 2026

One of the most innovative WASPA events of the month was staged jointly by the Brisbane Subbuteo Club and the New Zealand Subbuteo Club, with players competing across two countries in a unique team format.

Tournament organiser Gareth Whalley explained that the format was finalised during an online planning meeting involving himself, Richard Edelson and Pino. With sixteen participants taking part, the organisers opted for a format featuring two groups of four teams, with aggregate scores determining the standings.

Players from Australia and New Zealand were paired together by a random draw, creating international partnerships. To add further interest, each of the eight teams was named after a previous FISTF World Cup-winning nation. Matches consisted of two 15-minute halves and were played simultaneously at the Brisbane and New Zealand venues.

The event began on Saturday morning, with players gathering at their respective locations before the competition got under way.
