Great games in New Zealand

From left to right: Rodrigo Cárdenas, Ignacio López, Adrian Connolly, David Pacheco.
This saturday a small tournament was held in Palmerston North, New Zealand to celebrate the visit of Australia's Adrian Connolly. The event was some kind of "trans-Tasman sea tournament". Local players really enjoyed having Adrian with them. It was a great tournament played with great enthusiasm. NZ players would like to repeat this type of events in the future. Adrian Connolly finished on top of the group of 4 while Ignacio Lopez Campbell was runner-up, Rodrigo Cardenas was third and Mexico's David Pacheco took the fourth place.

New Zealand has international flickers in Palmerston North

The was a Subbuteo tournament on September 23, 2017 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The tournament was organized by Ignacio López who is the main organizer in the country. 8 players from 5 different nationalities (Chile, new Zealand, Colombia, Germany and... India) were taking part. In the final, it was a family affair between Ignacio López and his daughter Emilia and Ignacio won the game (1-0). Semi-finalists were representatives from "exotic" countries as Carlos Montoya from Colombia and Sunmeet Bhatia from India were on the podium. There are good hopes to see more events in the future in New Zealand and a closer collaboration with players from Australia.

Historic moments in New Zealand

WASPA had another historic moment this week-end with the very first tournament organized in Palmerston North, New Zealand. It was another exciting tournament organized by Ignacio López Campbell who used to be the historic organizer of Subbuteo tournaments in Chile before he moved to News Zealand. There were 16 players taking part and several nationalities were represented as there were 6 players from New Zealand, 6 from Chile, 1 from Germany, 1 from Colombia but more surprisingly also 1 from Mexico and 1 from India, which means two more nations will be involved in the next rankings. After the first round, the final was played between Robert Southward (using England) and Emilia López (using Holland). The game finished 0 x 0, so was the extra time. Thus first and second place was decided by penalty kicks. Robert Southward (from New Zealand) was the winner. The people really enjoyed playing subbuteo so there are great hopes to have more tournaments in Palmerston North in the future! Huge thanks to Ignacio López Campbell for making things possible!

Welcome New Zealand

Suzanne Hodgkinson and Emilia López

We have received great news from Ignacio López Campbell. The former organizer in Chile, who moved to New Zealand, has formed a new group of players in Palmerston North.  The first tournament will be held on December 3 and for most of the local players it will be the fourth gathering. Now things are a bit  more official and it's great to see the very first WASPA tournament in New Zealand coming up. Ignacio has received many tips about the new FISTF rules from Swiss start player Trisha Baumeler and for the local players, the clarifications were welcome. Good luck to Ignacio and the other local players.
