Subbuteo action in Brisbane and Sydney

Things are getting better in Australia and we are glad to receive results from Brisbane and Sydney.

Giuseppe Tardiota added one more titile to his collection last week-end when he won the latest Brisbane tournament. 5 flickers met for great games and in the end of the day, Giuseppe defeated Kevin Halliday in the final.

Northern Falcons are back!

After 125 da
ys, the Falcons were in action again on October 18, with a WASPA at Willoughby Park. Kennedy Congrats to Eliot for his win, starting like he hadn't had a break, with some excellent shooting to beat Jonty 4-0 and then Steve 3-1. Also big ups to Geoff for his second place, confirmed with a win over Steve and arguably the goal of the night in a 1-0 victory. Thanks also to Adrian and Jonty for coming to play. We also took advantage of the new cafe at the club for a sneaky dinner break and their Monday night special. Next night will be Monday, November 1. Stay tuned for details.

Final standings:
1. Eliot Kennedy
2. Geoff Sirmai
3. Adrian Grunbach
4. Steve Dettre
5. Jonty Brener

Thanks to the Sydney TFC guys for Tuesday night. Great to see Terry and Billy Koutzas back in action after a few years out of the game. Just goes to show it's never too late to resume... or to start!

Congrats to Fabrizio who started slowly but brushed away the cobwebs to win the final. Terry caused a major stir when he scored a cracker to lead 1-0 against Steve at the break, only to succumb to the weight of attacks in the second half. Also great to see loyal clubman Stefanos in action.

Semi-finals:
Fabrizio Coco - Tony Credentino 1-0
Eliot Kennedy - Steve Dettre 1-0

Final:
Fabrizio Coco - Eliot Kennedy 3-0

Dutch players can't stop flicking

Top 3 of the Sunday event: Nico Marks (3), Fabrizio Cavazza (winner) and Patrick de Jong (2)

Several tournaments have recently been held in the Netherlands. Thanks to Xavier Aret, there is a revival in the country and the great news is that some tournaments are played under WASPA banner.

On September 28, there was a small turnout of 4 players competing in group format. Fabrizio Cavazza, who is a registered player in the italian club of DLF Gorizia, took the honors while Maikel de Haas was runner-up. Rinaldo van Dijk was third and Xavier Aret fourth.

On October 10, there was a bigger field of 13 players for the first "big event" of the season. There were many close games and in the finals, a shoot-out was needed to decide the winner. Fabrizio Cavazza brought back the trophy after defeating Patrick de Jong. Nico Marks won the game for the third place again Rinaldo van Dijk. Winners received "stroopwafels", which are delicious speclialties from the Gouda area. To be noted Cailim Marks, son of Nico Marks, attended his first tournament during this day.

Last Wednesday, it was another night of play with six players involved. This time Patrick de Jong took the best on Fabrizio Cavazza.

Besides this, it is worth mentionning that in the North of the country, the clug of GSV de Hyacinth in Hoogezand held the first night of the local league. After a long year of break due to covid, it's good to see the Northern players doing a come-back.

For more details about the game in the Netherlands, follow the Dutch Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Subbuteonederland

Huge thanks to Xavier for his great job to make things running again in the Netherlands.

WASPA rankings and results after the September tournaments

Dear friends, you will find in the attached files the updated WASPA rankings. This is the first update of the rankings for the season 2021-2022, which means the individual "season ranking" and the different rankings of clubs start from scratch.

Excel file

PDF file

Perth players in Australia showing their certificate of "best Top club in 2020-2021"

You will see that Alan Lee is still the number 1 player and that England is on top of the ranking of nations. The first leader of the season ranking is Ireland's Mark Farrell who recently won the All-Ireland championship in Derry, the tournament was played under WASPA banner. Surrey Saracens SC (England) is on top of the "top clubs" table while the Italians of TSC 69ers are the first leaders of the Development league. We are glad to add 5 new clubs in the Development League, which is great.

Welcome to the Italians of Club Rebels Genova who are a new entry in the WASPA ranking of clubs for Juniors. It will be more important than ever to try to have young players invovled and both the individual and club rankings for juniors (players born in 2005 or later) will be a huge priority this season.

Players at the recent Cardiff tournament

If you have a look at the results, you will see that 25 tournaments have been played in September. There were also 2 test-matches played in Belgium. Our friends from Terni played an "old rules" event, Derry held the "All-Ireland National Cup" and Templeuve had a promotional tournament. The other 22 tournaments were "regional" events. There was less activity than usual in some nations and some clubs still have restrictions to run big events but we are very please dto see things slowly back to normal.

Great job with the kids by the "TSC 69ers" with many players of the Rebels Genova also taking part

All your ideas to make the WASPA circuit more attractive are more than welcome. Don't hesitate to send your feedback. We also hope to see more and more clubs running events under WASPA banner in the future.

Opening Randburg Nite Series a great success

Thursday the 30th of September saw the launch of the inaugural Randburg Nite Series hosted by the Joburg TFC aka 'The Eagles' at Randburg AFC. The Randburg Nite Series will consist of 4 events throughout the season with serious finale in May 2022. Special Joburg TFC medals and trophies will be presented to the winners and participants.

A good field of 8 players flicked, scored, joked and had a great evening enjoying our beautiful game of Subbuteo!

Five newbies were flicking for the first time and the feedback was that thet will be playing on a regular basis at the Joburg Eagles.

Clifford Graaff and Gordon Underwood topped their respective groups with Tyler Solomons and Takudzwa Karambo occupying the runner-up spots in both groups. Clifford and Gordon won their respective semi finals and met in the first Series Final with Clifford winning by 2 goals to nil.

The biggest cheer of the evening was when good friends Tyler and Takudzwa (TK) squared off in the 3rd Place Play Off. This proved to be a tight game which seemed destined to be heading for a penalty shoot-out only for a last minute goal by Tyler to clinch 3rd spot.

Once again all participants were treated to snacks and drinks courtesy of the Joburg Eagles.

The second Randburg Nite Series will be held on Thursday the 4th of November at Randburg AFC.
