Jayden van der Merwe wins the Gold Cup

Saturday 7 July 2018, Pretoria, South Africa:
One week before the actual World Cup Final, a small field of 6 players participated in the 4th edition of the PFC Gold Cup. The players got to play 5 matches each with 2 points a win, and 1 point a draw on offer.
The day's highlights included the following:
A fast paced 1-1 draw in Round 1 action between Jayden vd Merwe (BELGIUM) vs Chessray Jooste (JAPAN). Kegan vd Merwe (PORTUGAL) scoring with his left (weaker) hand for a 1-1 equaliser two minutes from time vs Julian vd Merwe (ENGLAND) in Round 1. Jayden scoring in the first minute of his Round 2 match vs Bevin Reed (FRANCE) - from which Bevin never recovered for the match to end at 1-0 in Jayden's favour. Gary Downs (MEXICO) scoring with 4 seconds of play left to earn a 1-1 draw vs Kegan in Round 2 action. In Round 5 action, an all important winner for Bevin with 20 seconds left to play to complete a 2-1 "come from behind" win over Kegan. A very significant 1-0 win for Jayden vs Julian. Gary recording a 1-0 victory over Chessray - scoring the goal within the last minute of play, for Gary to capture
3rd place overall on the day !

The log standings will show Bevin Reed on top - by virtue of goals scored. However, due to the head to head ruling, Jayden was awarded the 2018 PFC Gold Cup title thanks to his 1-0 victory over Bevin in Round 1 action. Jayden has really exerted his dominance on this annual event - making this his 4th consecutive triumph of the PFC Gold Cup, implying that no other player in Pretoria has ever conquered the Gold Cup since it's inception in 2015! This triumph marks Jayden's 15th WASPA title to date.

As always, a big thank you to all who attended to make the day a great success.
