Benny Ng Victorious in first Victorian WASPA of 2022

A small but eager group of players gathered on Friday 4th February for the first WASPA in Victoria for 2022 at the Western Flickers’ home base of Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre.  It was a welcome return to action for several of the players.

The results between the top 3 were tight and ultimately decided the event.  Benny Ng defeated Adrian Connolly 2-1 with a second half winner before having a 0-0 stalemate with Benji Batten, fresh from his FISTF win in the Sydney IO.  With Benji and Benny going into the final round level on 7 points, the final round games decided top spot.  Adrian upset Benji 1-0 with a great running goal in the first half before holding out under relentless pressure in the second half to hand Benny top spot after he overcame Tony Madiona with a second half winner.

It was great to see Tony Madiona return to action after a long absence during the pandemic, and to hear his announcement of his engagement!  Congratulations Tony. Peter Benholm had a baptism of fire in the draw by coming up against Benny and Benji in the opening rounds. Peter continues to improve with each appearance.   All players were impressed by photos of his Subbuteo stadium assembled at his residence in the equally impressively named Cubbyhouse Rd!

We hope to see more players in action at our next event on Friday 4th March, in preparation for a potential FISTF event in Melbourne in the near future.
