September proved to be another excellent month for WASPA table football activity across England, with clubs in Milton Keynes, North London, Yorkshire and Bristol hosting successful events and welcoming players of all experience levels. From first-time competitors to seasoned internationals, the spirit of competition, friendship and sportsmanship was on full display.
A special congratulations goes to all four clubs for their dedication to organising regular WASPA events and helping promote the game at grassroots level.
Milton Keynes: Holmes Takes the Title
The latest Milton Keynes WASPA event was held at the Woburn Hotel on 14 September, attracting eight players competing in two groups before the knockout matches.
The final saw Martin Holmes of Kettering Flicking Marvellous overcome local player Mark Green 2-0 to claim the title. The evening was another successful gathering for the club, which continues to build momentum in the region.
The next Milton Keynes WASPA event is scheduled for 12 October.
North London Launches New WASPA League
North London Table Soccer League successfully launched its first WASPA League meeting on 17 September.
England Veterans captain Rudi Peterschinigg led the way with an unbeaten performance, finishing first after recording four victories and one draw in a round-robin competition played on the club's newly refurbished San Siro Extreme Works tables.
While the experienced players showcased their quality, one of the highlights of the evening was newcomer Greg Frosdick. Competing in his first proper taste of FISTF Subbuteo, Greg completed all five matches and received encouragement, coaching and support from his fellow competitors throughout the night, perfectly demonstrating the welcoming nature of the hobby.
Luca Claims First Yorkshire WASPA Success
Another enjoyable evening took place at Dewsbury Moor Sports Club as Yorkshire Phoenix TFC and Dewsbury Moor TFC hosted their latest WASPA event.
The night was characterised by the excellent sportsmanship that has become a hallmark of Yorkshire table football. Congratulations go to Luca Lanzani, who captured his first Yorkshire Phoenix TFC and Dewsbury Moor TFC WASPA title.
A special thank you also goes to Craig Heward for organising and running the event.
International Flavour at Bristol
Bristol Subbuteo Club hosted the Beth Eveleigh Open WASPA Challenge on 21 September, welcoming players from across the United Kingdom and abroad.
The event was named after Australian player Beth Eveleigh, who was travelling through Europe to attend the FISTF World Cup and visit Bristol. Players from Cardiff were also well represented, adding to the international atmosphere of the competition.
After a closely contested final, Steve Wonnacott emerged victorious, defeating Aaron Skinner 2-1 after sudden death.
