Simone Trivelli wins the final stage of the WASPA Lazio League
On june 25 the club of SS Lazio in Italy organized the last stage of the WASPA Lazio League 2013-2014 with the usual swiss system and 10 players taking part. Once again the winner was Simone Trivelli who won his four games and had a perfect evening. This season Trivelli was on top of the WASPA Lazio League with six wins in eight stages and only one loss out of 32 games.
But the statement last night was not taken for granted: the last round of play Simone Trivelli was opposed to PaoloBarone, both 9 points, and it was a tough and balanced match in which Barone was very close to draw and then share the win of the tournament. Five minutes before the end of the game, Trivelli scored the decisive goal.
Behind Trivelli, three players had 9 points and were classified as according to the rule of the "value of the opponents". Paolo Barone was therefore second while Stefano Tagliaferri and Claudio Paolino shared the third place. The fifth place with 6 points ggoes to Marco Moretti, while Mario Lo Iacono takes the sixth position leaving Luigi Aniballi for the seventh quotient opponents (both players, in fact, have concluded the tournament with 4 points). They are followed by Simone Lo Iacono, Ernesto Poncetta and finally with zero points Riccardo Galieti.
The final general classification of the WASPA Lazio League 2013-2014 sees a podium with Simone Trivelli (186), Stefano Tagliaferri (145) and both Claudio Paolino (132) and Paul Barone (132) sharing the third place.

George Vassiliades wins in San Francisco
The day was full of sunshine, the World Cup, and winning tournaments on goal differential for George Vassiliades and AEK Tibet. They Cypriot took the day thanks to a 1-1 draw against Hotspur Subbuteo, who finished the day in second place. After losing both of their games, Vincent's Olympique and Joe's South Berkeley SC went into the Wooden Spoon Final needing a win. It all came down to a draw, then extra time, THEN penalties (which the Frenchman won 2-1 after six rounds). All-in-all, a great day of flicking with good friends. Until next time!

Mike Parnaby wins again in Thornaby
A couple of late withdrawals left us with only 6 players for this edition of our WASPA series of events. But it did not diminish from the competition and going into the last session of games, 4 of the 6 players still had a chance of winning the event on the night!!! Mike Parnaby topped the table on goal difference from Jeff Parsons, who did not concede a single goal all night. John Bottomley came third and Chris Kaberry fourth. The bottom two, Andy Mill and Rob Heseltine are showing great signs of improvement and it will not be too long before they both influence the overall outcome.
Date of next NETFA Teesside WASPA tournament will be 18th July 2014

Subbuteo Pizza Invitational from South Queensferry Bowling Club
4 players were playing in their first ever event while another 2, Daryl Shanks and Allan Manson were playing their first event since the Dumfries Club of Solway Seagulls folded a few years ago.
The event was run as an end of season fun event for HCE players who have come a long way in not a long time. In January we had no regular club and now 6 months later we have a regular venue in South Queensferry and about 20 players in total. We hope we can expand even more next season and start to encourage more youth players along.
The event itself was a 4 round swiss system, with everyone placed in the one table, no referees were used during the tournament to encourage complete fair play.
The event was always going to be a tight affair and so it proved as the top 4 players all finished on the same number of points with only goal difference separating them. Kev Christopher looked like he was heading for the title in the final game after leading Malc Lees 1-0 at half time but a late equaliser for Old Man Malc ensured there would be a 4 way tie and thanks to a fairly emphatic win earlier in the day, Malc took the overall title of “Subbuteo & Pizza Invitational” ahead of Terry Brown, Kev and Dave Allen on goal difference.
6 of the top 7 players finished the day unbeaten which shows how tight the competition was and special mention has to go to Baver Bari and Craig Lynch for not losing a single game!
John Marshall was the best placed finisher of the new players who had come along and to that end took the gold medal in the Novice Category
Everyone had a cracking day and it was a fitting end to a great season for the club who had looked in pretty bad shape at the turn of the year.

Double Delight for Jayden van der Merwe
Saturday 7th June 2014, Pretoria, South Africa : A cold Pretoria day did not stop the action as 25 goals were scored in total, with 10 of those goals belonging to the eventual tournament winner, Jayden van der Merwe. The success for Jayden means he enjoyed back to back titles as he also won the PFC Challenge Cup in May 2014 – “Double Delight”. Jayden also boasted the fastest goal on the day during Match 5 : Jayden (2) v (0) Chessray – Jayden opened the scoring after only 39s of play !
The game of the day came in Match 8 : Jayden (3) v (2) Julian – a 5 goal thriller whereby Jayden got the winner with 10s left to play – Julian’s making a habit of conceding late !!! Those who were present believe it was this result which handed Jayden the title, as he showed real fight back to take the lead on 3 occasions ! A draw in Match 10 would have been enough to hand Jayden the title, but Kegan had other ideas as the match ended : Kegan (2) v (1) Jayden – inflicting Jayden’s only loss of the day. The event was sealed for Jayden as late as Match 11– Chessray (0) v (1) Jayden.
In the final match (Match 12) : Julian (0) v (1) Kegan, the goal coming with only 28s left on the clock & the result ensured a 2nd place finish for Kegan – a move in the right direction for Kegan as he improves on his 3rd place finish during the PFC Challenge Cup of May 2014.
Final Standings :
• Jayden van der Merwe – 13p
• Kegan van der Merwe – 10p
• Chessray Jooste – 7p
• Julian van der Merwe – 4p
