Marco Bonciani wins in Firenze

On Monday the club of Firenze (Italy) was holding a first tournament of the season with an amazing turnout of 21 players. Marco Bonciani was the champion of the night after a great final against Davide Visani. Mirko Masini and Matteo Cherici were the semi-finalists. Nicola Poggiali won the consolation tournament for places 9 to 12 and Giammarco Riccioni won the other consolation event. Thanks to the Firenze players for a great evening. Well done!

Brian Daley wins Paul Lloyd North Wales Open

London Road Subbuteo Club held the "Paul Lloyd North Wales Open" on Saturday 23rd September at The Parrot, Drury, North Wales. 20 players entered this WASPA individual tournament, with players from four countries. Players from three new WASPA Top Clubs entered. Brian Daley won the Open final, defeating Martin Blanchard in the final. Malcolm Lees and Tom Burns reached the semi-finals. Congratulations to LRSC for organising such a great event. LRSC are hoping to meet some other clubs for similar tournaments in the future.

Flaming Flickers tournaments in Greece

September 2017 was a great month with 28 regional tournaments, 2 events with advanced rules and 1 tournament with old rules. The NETFA Brigantes league also came back for a new season and 3 small events.

We were very glad to see the very first tournament in Rosario (Argentina) and the very first tournament run by the Marina Citerior Subbuteo Club in the Alicante area in Spain (a place to recommend if you have some holidays over there). Australia had an impressive activity of 6 tournaments. We were also glad to see the second event in New Zealand with a very international field (including players from Colombia and India). There were many other events in many different countries but one of the tournaments deserves a special mention. The London Road event in Wales was really special as players from four different clubs (London Road from Wales, Wolverhampton from England, Glasgow from Scotland, Derry City from Northern Ireland) had a great week-end with team and individual matches in a very friendly atmosphere. That's what WASPA should always be.

The "Top clubs" section is now growing growing with 22 different clubs involved.

Congratulations to Rémy Huynh from Belgium who not only became FISTF world champion earlier in September but has also reach the 13th position in the WASPA ranking.

New Zealand has international flickers in Palmerston North

The was a Subbuteo tournament on September 23, 2017 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The tournament was organized by Ignacio López who is the main organizer in the country. 8 players from 5 different nationalities (Chile, new Zealand, Colombia, Germany and... India) were taking part. In the final, it was a family affair between Ignacio López and his daughter Emilia and Ignacio won the game (1-0). Semi-finalists were representatives from "exotic" countries as Carlos Montoya from Colombia and Sunmeet Bhatia from India were on the podium. There are good hopes to see more events in the future in New Zealand and a closer collaboration with players from Australia.

Kye topped the Kent League, winning 12 of the 20 scheduled nights in what was a 22 player league in the end which catered for both occasional and regular players. Kye was on form last Friday winning the final league night but the surprise player was Paul Frank topping his group before losing in the Semi-Final to Terry. Kye edged a close game with Adrian on shots to make the final where he took his early chances to win the game 3-0 and confirm his place at the top of the Kent League with a dominant season’s performance.

Thank you to all the players who came and supported the League! We will be holding regular nights still up to the end of the year however with original bases, doubles and team nights until our new league starts in January 2018.

Paul Eyes wins in Alexandria

NoVA Union Subbuteo Club hosted the 2017 PlayHard Championship this weekend in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. It was a great day of competition and fun for all. Congratulations to Paul Eyes for winning the final against Daniel Cranston in a tight contest all the way to the final whistle. And also, congratulations to Andrew Zunino and Grant Lilly who battled each other in the barrage final ("Mary Jane Final") with Andrew winning the match.

A very nice field in Bande

On September 28 the club of Wamme SC managed to attract a very nice field of 16 players for their first WASPA tournament of the season. The event was played in Swiss system with 4 sessions. The new FISTF Open world champion Rémy Huynh was on fire and was the winner of the day while Justin Leroy was runner-up. The tournament was a good way to prepare for the Belgian grand prix held this week-end in Eugies. Justin Leroy was the Grand prix winner! Louis on Giaux took the third place of the tournament while Loris Léonard was fourth. Congratulations to those who made it possible to have a good show in Bande.

Mick Hammonds wins in Wolverhampton

10 players attended the tournament organized by Wolverhampton SFC earlier this month. The tournament was played with advanced rules. Mick Hammonds defeated Gage Badger in the final to take the honors. Justin Scott and Richard Badger were the semi-finalists.

"Another thoroughly enjoyable evening of subbuteo for WSFC. Despite some excellent performances from our youth players, Mick Hammonds took the title with some ruthless finishing to win 2-0 (after handicap adjustments). Congratulations to Mick, and to everyone who took part. A special mention as well to Gage Badger who made the final with some excellent play over the night - and it was his first ever tournament, too", reported Justin Scott.

A first victory for Sotiris Korologos

12 players from various clubs competed this Sunday during the 10th WASPA Greek Old rules Subbuteo tournament, organized by Flaming Flickers at Kallithea Athens. There were many great games, a lot of penalties and the winner was Sotiris Korologos, currently member of the Italian club Serenissima Mestre, who won the title in his first appearance.

Congratulations to Sotiris and to all the players for the great Subbuteo Sunday morning!

Conway and Baxter are winners in Dundee

Dundee United TFC have held two tournaments in the last few weeks. The first one was held on August 27 and attracted 6 players who competed in a group stage. David Baxter was the winner of the day with 3 wins while Gareth Christie was runner-up with 8 points.

On September 24 there was another event in Letham. This time Rob Conway took the honors while David Baxter was runner-up. It was good to see Blair Cunningham coming part in a tournament.
