Eagles take flight once again

The Johannesburg TFC 'the Eagles' held there first tournament after a lengthy hiatus at Randburg FC on the 7th of October 2018. It was aptly named 'Back to Basics' as all present showed severe signs of rustiness after a very long break. Three complete novices, namely Paul Semu (Malawi) andtwo juniors namely  Jonathan Kapangilia (age 12) and Nicholas Kapangilia (age 5), both from Zambia, were introduced to the game for the very first time. A mini double round robin was played, with 12 year old Jonathan showing some promising touches to take the Promotion Tournament and ending the day unbeaten.

The main tournament was played on a round robin basis, whereby everyone played against each other. Carl Bolweg showed some delightful touches on the table bearing in mind that a few hours ago he was touring Spain with his under 12 football team from ETS (Education Through Education). The game of the tournament was undoudtedly the encounter between life long friends Chris Dimmer and Johan van Nieuwenhysen. These two started playing Subbuteo in the early 1950's and there passion for the game has not diminished. Johan took an early lead, however Chris' precise play soon turned the tables on his friend and he scored two unanswered goals to clinch third spot. Although Clifford remained unbeaten, his play was light years behind his normal style with a large majority of flicks missing the mark. Abraham, a Tanzanian national, once again enjoyed himself and earned the award of the most 'spirited' player on the day. Goal of the day went to Johan for his scorcher on the run against Clifford.

The ultimate highlight was the enjoyment and friendship which manifested itself once again. 'Just For You Meals' sponsored a delightful light lunch for all the players which went down well especially after the exertions on the table.
