Mohd Rizal Taib, Tomoki Ono and Michael Choong are WASPA winners at the Asian Cup

The Asian Cup in Sydney was played last week and was a huge success with more than 50 players from 4 nations taking part in the event. Besides the main events for individuals, clubs and national teams, some WASPA events were played during the week-end.

On Saturday, the "Shield event" was played for those who finished third in their groups. Mohd Rizal Taib (Singapore/Jurong SC) defeated Melvin Singh( Australia/Western Sydney on shots in the final. Noel Mani (Perth) and Nathan Urbaniak (Melbourne) made it to the semi-finals.

The "Plate" was organized for those who finished 4th in their group.  (Japan/Tokyo Sparkling Shooters) managed to beat Steve Diasinos (Australia. Western Sydney) in the final. Semi-finalists were Jonny Ball (Northern Falcons) and Nick McNeil (New Zealand TSA)

Finally, on Sunday, the "Presidents Cup" was organized for those who didn't have a club team.  from the Hong Kong Dragons was the undefeated winner of the event while Deniele Lombard was runner-up. Final table of the tournament played in Swiss system:

Christmas tournament in Singapore

A ridiculously fun Singapore Xmas tournament went down at Kebun Bahru CC. Eight cool cats showed up, with the top dog from each group making it to the final showdown. Rudy crushed it in Group A with max points, while Group B was a hot mess. Sham was spreading Xmas cheer by handing Edin a surprise win, which allowed Bernard to sneak into the final despite KW's best efforts to take him down.

The final match between Rudy and Bernard was a chill affair compared to their last F.I.S.T.F showdown. In the end, Rudy scored a gorgeous near-post goal, securing his title as Xmas champion 2025. Hohoho! Merry Xmas and Happy holidays to all!

Ashley Tan wins Kebun Baru tournament

The Kebun Baru Doves club held their "May 2024 WASPA tournament" on May 9. 6 players competed in a league format and Ashley Tan took the honors after being unbeaten.

John Edwards wins season flick-off in Singapore

Things have been slowing down a bit in Singapore since the pandemic but thanks to the Kebun Baru Doves, things are on the up again with a first WASPA tournament held on April 11. John Edwards won the tournament played in league format and will continue to hold more monthly WASPA events.

Michael Choong wins National Day tournament in Singapore

The players

The National Day WASPA in Singapore was successfully held on the August 6th 2023 and was attended by 8 players. There were many exciting and close matches over the 2 groups and semi-finals.

Michael Choong managed to beat Rudy Hesty on shots in the final after a 1-1 tie and thus claimed the title.

Michael Choong wins 2023 inaugural tournament in Singapore

Singapore started with a bang in 2023. Total of 12 players played in Swiss format, Michael Choong finishing top and the legendary Den Mulia came in second. 

It was a fantastic day as there were 23 matches played with a total of 70 goals scored, an incredible 3.04 goals per match.

Bernard Lim wins on the day but Anas Rahamat emerged overall champ!

The November session of the 2022 TFAS SG League took place at the Singapore Sports Hub Library.  A total of 5 players gathered for the final League session of the year for a full round-robin format with each player getting 4 games.  While Bernard Lim won on the day with a perfect record of 4 wins; in the grander scheme of things, it was Anas Rahamant who emerged as the overall 2022 TFAS League Champion over the 9 sessions throughout the year!!

Rudy Hesty wins at Vikfield

The October session of the 2022 TFAS Singapore League had to be postponed to November 13 due to the Omicron wave taking out majority of the players in October. A total of 8 players gathered at VikField - Home of Vikas - for a 2 groups of 4 round-robin format. The top 2 players of each group qualify for the Cup event while the bottom 2 play in the Plates. In the midst of all the pizzas, chips, fun & laughter, Rudy Hesty took home the crown by beating Kok Wee Tan 3-0 in the Cup Final while host Vikas took home the Plates title. Congrats Rudy! And many thanks to our gracious host Vikas!

Michael Choong wins to go joint Top!

The September session of the 2022 TFAS SG League took place on September 11 at The Sports Hub Library without 'mask-wearing' for the first time in almost 3 years! A total of 5 players were in attendance for a full round-robin format. Each player gets a total of 4 games.

National Champion Michael Choong staked his claim for the SG League to go joint-top with long-standing leader Anas Rahamat (who was absent). Congratulations Michael! Another notable highlight is the performance of Enzo Fornaro - who followed up his outstanding performance in his last League outing - by beating Vikas Chandiramani 3-2 in a thrilling game to clinch 3rd place. Well done, Enzo!

Michael Choong wins to close the gap

The August session of the 2022 TFAS SG League took place on 14 August at The Sports Hub Library. A total of 8 players were in attendance for a 2-group of 4 round-robin format with the top 2 from each group qualifying for the knock-out phase to contest the top 4 placings; while the bottom 2 of each group contest the 5th to 8th placings. Each player gets a total of 5 games. Kok Wee Tan caused an upset when he knocked-out SG League leader Anas Rahamat. The stage was set for Michael Choong to clinch top-place in this round of the SG League to close the gap on Anas with a comfortable 2-0 win over Kok Wee. Congratulations Michael! With the Perth IO coming up this weekend, the Singapore table football community wishes Vikas Chandiramani a great outing in Australia! Safe travels & carry our flag high!

Anas Rahamat wins again but Enzo Fornaro is the real MVP!

The July session of the 2022 TFAS SG League took place on 24 Jul at The Sports Hub Library. 6 players were in attendance for a full round-robin format where each player gets 5 games. Without a shadow of doubt and with unerring consistency, Anas Rahamat once again showed why he is at the top of his game by winning all his 5 games!! Congratulations to Anas!! However, the real MVP of the day was Enzo Fornaro. In his best showing in Singapore table football to-date, Enzo held newly-crowned National Champion Michael Choong to a 0-0 draw; and scored 2-1 victories against national team players Vikas Chandiramani & Bernard Lim. Well done and congratulations Enzo!!

Anas Rahamat wins in Singapore again

The May session of the 2022 TFAS SG League took place on 29 May at The Sports Hub Library. 6 players were in attendance for a full-robin format where each player gets 5 games.  Anas Rahamat exerted his dominance in Singapore table football by going unbeaten with 4 won games & 1 drawn game.  After the initial 3-way tie-up at the top of the League among Anas, Den Mulia & Bernard Lim; Anas is slowly but surely pulling away!!  As the SG League reaches its mid-point, Anas has a 10-points lead in the overall standings! Well done and congratulations Anas!

Singapore welcomes Arjune Hanafi back home after more than 2 years!

KB Doves TFC hosted a 'Long-Time-No-See' WASPA on 11 May 2022 at their club premises at Kebun Bahru Community Club in honour of Arjuna Hanafi.  This is the 1st time in more than 2 years that the Melbourne-based Arjuna is able to return to his home country!!  A total of 4 flickers took part in a round-robin format and each player gets 3 games.  At the end of play, Bernard edged out John on goal difference with both players tied on points after both having 2 wins + 1 draw.  Arjuna finished ahead of Azhari on goal difference to finish 3rd with both players tied on 1 point.

 While we marked Arjuna's home visit with what we all loved best on the table, the off-table banter, catch-up and camaraderie after more than 2 years are all the more memorable and precious.  In attendance was also Arjuna's 2 sons: Aiman & Adam.  Till we next flick again, here's wishing Arjuna & his family safe travels back to Melbourne! Anas Rahamat wins in Singapore

The 2022 TFAS SG League resumes on April 24 at The Sports Hub Library after the 'international break' in March. 9 players took part and were randomly drawn into 3 groups of 3 for the first round of games. Thereafter, each player's placings in their respective group will determine the respective groups of 3 in the second round of games.  Each player gets 4 games in total.  By the end-of-day, Anas Rahamat came up tops by winning the April League session!!  Well done and congratulations Anas!

John Ho wins Nostalgic Subbuteo Challenge in Singapore

Table Football Association of Singapore successfully organised a Nostalgic Subbuteo Challenge on 12 Mar 2022 where only old-school 'cereal-bowl' bases and plastic GKs are allowed.  Compared to modern bases. these 'cereal-bowl' bases are more demanding and difficult to control - truly testing the flicking fundamentals of the players.  A total of 8 players participated to relive the good old 'curling' days from the 1980s.

Players were randomly drawn into 2 groups of 4 where the top 2 of each group qualify for the semis of the main tournament while the bottom 2 proceed to playoffs to determine their final standings.  Bernard Lim and John Ho Lim topped their respective groups and eventually met in the Final.  This is a re-match of their 1986 Subbuteo Association Cup semi-final where Bernard prevailed 4-2.  In a tense Final, John scored the winning goal from a direct free-kick in the dying seconds of the last minute - sweet revenge for John!!  Congratulations John and well done to all players who participated!!

The Table Football Association of Singapore organised the February session of the 2022 TFAS SG League on 13 Feb at The Sports Hub Library.  5 players took part in a full round-robin format to compete for bragging rights and League points.  Each player gets 4 games.  After the usual intense battle amid all the laughter and camaraderie, Bernard Lim emerged as the winner of the February League session!  Well done Bernard!

Michael Choong wins 1st Singapore tournament of 2022

As Singapore transits from pandemic to endemic Covid, the Table Football Association of Singapore has carefully restarted regular table football activities under strict safe management measures.  Spearheading this (and in close collaboration with The Sports Hub Library - our venue partner/sponsor) is the resumption of our regular League sessions throughout the calendar year.  9 players gathered on 16 Jan 2022 for the first League session to vie for bragging rights and League points.

Players were randomly drawn into 3 groups of 3 for first round of games.  Thereafter, each player's placings in their respective group will determine the respective groups of 3 in the second round of games.  In total, each player gets 4 games.  After the usual intense battle amid all the laughter and camaraderie, Michael Choong emerged as the winner of the January League session and the first tournament of 2022 in Singapore!!  Congratulations Michael!

Rudy Hesty winner in Singapore

6 players gather on sunny Sunday morning on October 17, 2021. Great to see Anas and Enzo back joining the session. With still strict COVID 19 measures conditions, players played a 5 rounds robin games. No clear winners in this event with players cancelling each other wins notably with Michael beating Rudy, Bernard beating Michael & Enzo beating Bernard. End of event, Rudy came up tops edging Michael only on goal difference; followed by Ana’s, Bernard, Enzo & Rizal.

Three small events in Singapore

Due to the lockdown, events with five players or more are still not possible in Singapore. Anyway, local players continue to practice and three small events have been held in September.

On September 12, Sports Hub Library hosted 3 players, Tan Kok Wee, Rizal Taib & Vikas. Games were played in a 2 legged format & end of games, Tan Kok Wee came on top.

August Subbuteo session in Singapore

August 29, 2021 - Sports Hub Library 

After more then a month of no action due to strict Singapore Covid 19 measures, SPH open their doors again allowing us to flick at venue. 5 flickers were allowed but due to unforeseen circumstances the main organiser had to pull out, leaving Bernard Lim, Vikas, Rizal Taib & Rudy. 

Due to long layout, the enthusiastic players decided to test their endurance & play a marathon 2 rounds round robin, hence each players get 6 games. 

6 backbreaking games later, Rudy came out tops with full points, followed by Vikas, Bernard & Rizal.
