Vicenç Prats and Ferran Coll winners in the Catalan Circuit

Better late than never, we finally publish news from the Catalan Country and we are happy to collect results of the last two stage of the Catalan Circuit.

Earlier this season, Breda hosted the second tournament of the 2025-2026 season, an event that once again brought together a large number of participants and consolidated the good momentum of the discipline throughout the territory. p to 28 players from various parts of Catalonia, and also with representation from Occitania and Mallorca , filled the Cercle Bredenc Multipurpose Hall with intense competition, a good atmosphere and closely contested matches from the group stage.

As happened in Montornès at the start of the season, Vicenç Prats once again demonstrated his great form and was proclaimed tournament champion. In the final he again beat Àlex Araujo 2-1, who had another very regular tournament and remains one of the essential names on the Circuit. The semi-finals offered high-level duels. Ferran Coll and Alfred Laporta were the other two great protagonists of the main draw, reaching the top 4 after a day full of rhythm and intense matches.

The consolation also made headlines. The Mallorcan Josep David Somoza, after having beaten local player Ricard Carles in the semifinals, on penalties, won in the final against Montornès' representative Toni Hernández. The fact that players who are usually at the top of the rankings end up competing in the consolation round —as happened in the first tournament— once again demonstrates the growth in the competitive level of the Circuit in recent times. The differences are narrowing and each match becomes a demanding challenge, even in the early rounds.

The Catalan Table Football Circuit experienced a day to remember this Sunday, February 1st, in Mataró, home of the third tournament of the 2025-2026 season. The event set an absolute record for participation , with a total of 36 players, the highest number recorded so far in a tournament on the circuit.

The day was marked from the start by the high number of participants, which generated a very demanding group stage with high-intensity matches. The presence of several local players contributed to creating a great competitive atmosphere throughout the tournament, with numerous duels decided by small details.

The grand final offered a duel of the highest level between Ferran Coll and Vicenç Prats, two of the current leaders of the Catalan Circuit. The match was extremely close and needed extra time to decide the champion. Finally, Ferran Coll managed to prevail in the decisive minutes, proclaiming himself champion after a very solid performance throughout the competition. Prats, for his part, once again demonstrated great regularity and added a new final this season.

The semi-finals also featured remarkable performances. Alfred Laporta confirmed his good form with a new presence in the final rounds, while local player Àlex Araujo had an excellent tournament, coming within touching distance of a third consecutive final after a very meritorious run throughout the day.

In the consolation round, the triumph went to the Tàrrega player, Rafel Blasco, who completed a great tournament and won in the final against another local representative, Arnau de la Hoz.

The fourth stage of the circuit will take place in Girona on April 12.

October 2025: Summary of a few great tournaments held in the last few weeks

After a successful start of the new season, we asee many clubs organising fantastic Subbuteo tournaments under WASPA banner. We are very proud to collect here some results of the latest events held in Ireland, England, Malta, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. Thanks to the organizers who publish great stories of their tournaments. We are looking forward to seeing more tournaments in the next few weeks.

Cork, IRL, September 28 2025

The recent Cork Open Subbuteo Tournament was held in The SMA, Wilton, Cork, Ireland. This is the first Major Subbuteo Tournament held in Cork for almost 50 years. William Magnier having formed the Subbuteo & Table Football Cork Club about a year and a half ago, it was a pleasure and a privilege to hold a Leg of The Irish Circuit for the first time ever. Organisers of the day were Mario Frittelli and Barry Higgins, and William ran like clockwork. Special thanks to John Moore for his expertise and experience.

Players from Ballymena, Dublin, Bray, Wexford, Tralee, Offaly, Waterford, Cork and indeed the UK and Italy made the long trip to Cork for what we hope will be the first of many successful tournaments.

The Spacious Main Hall in SMA Parish Centre was the ideal venue, with private parking and easy access. Special thanks to Catherine Magnier, Evelyn Magnier and Barry Higgins for providing food, drinks and snacks.

Vicenç Prats opens the season with a triumph in Montornès in the most crowded tournament on the Catalan Circuit

The Catalan Table Football Circuit 2025-2026 kicked off last Sunday, September 28, in Montornès del Vallès with a tournament that will remain in the memory. With 34 players registered —an absolute record for the Circuit— and finally 33 effective participants after the last-minute withdrawal of Sergi Ribé, the event highlighted the growing strength and appeal of the competition. Among the participants, three new faces: the Mallorcan Josep David Somoza , the Occitan Ludovic Beauvais and the return, more than two years later, of the Barcelonan Xavier Vallvé.

The day started after 9am with an intense and emotional moment: a minute of silence in memory of the recently deceased Joan Flores, a much-loved teammate on and off the playing field.

The tournament was of a very high standard and culminated in the victory of Vicenç Prats, who prevailed in the final against Àlex Araujo from Mataró. Both finalists had overcome top-level rivals in the semifinals: Prats against Fabio Mastroianni and Araujo against Ferran Coll.

And the consolation champion, Marc Ligos, also receiving recognition from the Montornès team.

The increase in competition was also noticeable in the consolation tournament, where a player in Marc Ligos ' category took the title by defeating local representative Toni Hernández in the final .

The next Catalan Circuit tournament will take place in Breda, on November 30. The rest of the dates and venues for the tournaments for this 2025-2026 season will be announced soon, which is expected to be as exciting or more exciting than the previous one.

The Chasers Autumn Open took place last week-end and had a great turnout of 25 players taking part. Special guest of the day was Svein Arne Brekke from Norway. Joe Harrington (Haverhill) was the surprising winner of the Open tournament after beating Malcolm Jamieson in the final. Adam Jackson won the Plate, Martin Colwell won the Shield and Hadley Chapman won the Junior final.

Congratulations to the Chasers club for raising £80 for Gold Geese Children's Cancer Charity. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the collection.

Alfred Laporta achieves his first victory in the Catalan

On Sunday, May 18, the fifth and final tournament of the regular phase of the Catalan Table Football Circuit 2024-2025 was held in Mataró. The competition was held at the headquarters of the "Capgrossos de Mataró human tower team", a regular meeting point for the organizing club from Mataró, AS Iluro Futbol Taula, and featured the participation of 28 players from various parts of Catalonia.

Alfred Laporta achieved his first victory in a Circuit tournament after a demanding and highly contested course. In the semifinals he narrowly beat Vicenç Prats, current number 1 in the Catalan ranking, and in the final he defeated Ferran Coll, leader of the Circuit, also in a very even duel. Laporta managed the decisive moments well and took a victory that he had narrowly missed on previous occasions.

In the consolation tournament, local player Toni Rosa gave a great performance and defeated Guillem Balaguer in a tight final, closing his regular season with very good feelings.

With this fifth event —after the tournaments held in Montornès (2), Breda, Girona and now Mataró, the regular phase of the Circuit closes and the final classification is confirmed with the 16 players who will participate in the playoffs for the title, which will be held in Breda on July 6.

Ferran Coll triumphs in Girona

On Sunday, March 30, Girona hosted a tournament of the Catalan Table Football Circuit for the second time. This edition was held at the facilities in the Sant Narcís neighborhood of the GEiE , bringing together 26 players from all over Catalonia: Barcelona, ​​L'Hospitalet, Montornès, Mataró, Breda and, obviously, a local representation from Girona.

This was the fourth scoring tournament of the 2024-2025 season, of the five events that make up the Circuit and that determine the 16 qualified for the final playoffs. The competition was intense and full of emotions, with great matches that kept the excitement going until the last moment.

The final offered a duel already known within the Catalan Circuit: Ferran Coll (Vila de Gràcia) against Vicenç Prats (Sarrià). Although on most occasions it has been Prats who has prevailed, this time Coll reversed the trend and took the tournament with a narrow victory by 2 to 1.

With this triumph, the player from Gracia consolidates his leadership in the general classification and takes a firm step towards the playoffs.

As for the consolation tournament, Guillem Balaguer was proclaimed champion after beating Cesc Vidal (Mataró) in the final. Vidal, who had already reached the consolation final in the previous tournament, repeated a great performance, demonstrating his progression in the competition.

With this competition, the Catalan Circuit enters its final stretch. There is only one tournament left before the playoffs , and it will be held on June 1 , at a venue yet to be determined. The players will have one last chance to secure a place among the top 16 and fight for the title of champion of the season.

Vicenç Prats prevails in Montornès

Last Sunday, February 2, 29 players met in the 3rd Catalan Circuit tournament of the season in Montornès del Vallès. The competition brought together a total of 29 participants from all over Catalonia and Mallorca. This equals the record for attendance at a Circuit tournament.

The tournament ended with the victory of Vicenç Prats (Sarrià – Barcelona), who defeated Fabio Mastroianni (Mallorca) in a contested final that ended with the result 2-1. In fact, this was Prats' first participation in the Circuit this season, which explains his current position in the general classification. However, his victory has allowed him to regain first position in the individual ranking .

The young Mataró player Julià Rosa was the winner of the consolation tournament, beating his Iluro teammate, Cesc Vidal. In this way, he continues with the great progression in his sporting career, consolidating himself as one of the young promises of the Circuit.

Ferran Coll new leader in the Catalan Circuit

Barcelona's Ferran Coll won the second tournament of the Catalan Circuit last Sunday in Breda. The tournament victory also offers him the lead in the Catalan Circuit. Ferran Coll was semi-finalist in the first tournament and this toime, he defeated Alfred Laporta in the final. Alfred Laporta has a very successful rise back to the top since he started playing again in March.

21 players attended the tournament but in the last minute, organizers had to accept Vicenç Prats's dropout while Alex Araujo, winner of the first tournament, was also absent.

Despite the two major absences, the level of the tournament was high. Toni Rosa (Iluro) won the consolation tournament after defeating Jordi Geronès (Barcelona FT) in the final. To be nothd Joan Fontcuberta (Manrese) was attending his first tournament, proving the Catalan Circuit helps to recruit new players.

Spain also had a great WASPA season flick-off on September 29 with 23 players competing in the first tournament of the Catalan Circuit. Mallorca's Fabio Mastroianni and Rafel Blasco de Tàrrega were playing their first WASPA tournament in Montornès del Vallès, home of Barcelona Futbol Taula.

June 2024: results from New Zealand, Wales, South Africa, Spain and the Netherlands

The last few weeks have been extremely busy and we haven't published many results of the latest WASPA events but we keep receiving news from around the world. here is a summary of results collected from many different countries. We will come back with results from England in a different post soon.

New Zealand: Andy Shearer winner in Auckland

* The Northern Line Flickers had their last meet of the Winter season. Andy Shearer won all his games to win the night.

Wales: Phil Dacey still in great shape / Ruby wins

* In Cardiff, Phil Dacey managed to win another event last week. The Cardiff Blubirds tournament was played to celebrate the visit of Giulio Astengo from italy. Phil Dacey was unbeaten and was the clear winner of the night while David Lauder was runner-up.

Final standings: 1. Phil Dacey ; 2. David Lauder ; 3. Giulio Astengo ; 4. Matthew Rowley ; 5. John Lauder ; 6. Tommaso Astengo ; 7. David Samuel.

* The London Road club had small event with Ruby Matthews finishing on top of a group of 4 players. Ruby was unbeaten, proving she's becoming a really good player.

Final standings: 1. Ruby Matthews ; 2. Chris Bedford ; 3. Cayne Matthews ; 4. Brendan Ashley.

3 events in South Africa

* In Johannesburg, the ETS club held a tournament with 8 players taking part. Ian Clarke defeated Jason Kennedy (2-1) in the final to claim the title. Chris Dimmer and Gary Downs made it to the semi-finals.

* Also in Johannesburg, the Easterns club held a small event with 4 players taking part. The final standings were as follows: 1. Ian Clarke ; 2. Gary Downs ; 3. Christopher Paolini ; 4. Keegan Paolini.

* Cape Town City SC also held a tournament with 4 players. It was a home win for local organizer Neil Hampton. Final table: 1. Neil Hampton ; 2. Simmy Peertuin ; 3. Mike Ryder ; 4. Max Peertuin.

* The National championships will be held in Cape Town on November 23. 

Spain: Vicenç Prats in great shape

* In the Catalan Country, 10 players attended the latest tournament of the regional circuit. After the group stage (5 groups of 4 players) , players were divided in top and bottom tables to decide the winners. Vicenç Prats defeated Alfred Laporta (3-1) to win the tournament. Ricard Carles Prat and Ferran Coll were the semi-finalists. Paco Ucha won the Consolation final after a win against Ferran Borbones in the final.

The Netherlands: Marks and Aret on top

* The competition is still going on in Gouda. Nico Marks won the monthly event in May, finishing on top of a group of 6.

Final standings: 1. Nico Marks ; 2. Marco de Bruin ; 3. Jarno Marks ; 4. Xavier Aret ; 5. Cailim Marks ; 6. Richard Oranje.

* In June, 8 players attended the meeting. After the group stage, Xavier aret was the surprising winner and claimed his very first WASPA title.

The fourth tournament of the "23-24 Circuit Català" was played last week-end by 29 players. This is a new record for the circuit and organizers can be really proud of it!

Three new players Alfred Laporta, Roger Ribè  and Dani Prieto were taking part and Vicenç Prats was the winner this time after a great match against Ferran Coll decided in a penalty shoot-out.

Last week-end the second tournament of the "Circuit Catala" took place in Barcelona. There was again an amazing field of 26 players from several different clubs. Two new players (Arnau de la Hoz and Pere Albarracin, both from Iluro FT) were taking part.

Ferran Coll (on the left picture) was the big winner of the day after defeating Alex Araujo in the final. Vicenç Prats and Marti Rosa made it to the semi-finals. Julià Rosa won the consolation tournament.

A quick look back at one of the biggest events held this season under WASPA banner. Our friends in Barcelona held the first of their 5 tournaments counting for the "Circuit Catala". 22 players from various clubs wdere taking part and some big names were taking part.

Vincenç Prats took the honors in the final after defeating Ferran Coll in a spectacular game (4-3). Ricard Calres and Arturo Martinez made it to the semi-finals.

In the last week-end of June the last stage of the "Circuit Català de Futbol de Taula" took place with 26 players from various clubs taking part. It was also the come-back of table football in Breda and many of the country's top players were taking part. it was an honor also to see Subbuteo legend Arturo Martinez attending his very first WASPA tournament. The former world champion Vicenç Prats defeated Ferran Coll in the final. Coll is also rthe leader of the circuit after 5 tournaments. There will be big finals on July 30 in the city of Montornès del Vallès. Good luck to all involved players and thanks to the organizers for the amazing work!

Earlier in June the Derry Open was an amazing success with players travelling from many countries to play the FISTF Open. The consolation event was held under WASPA banner with 23 players taking aprt and many great games. Jason Christopher (Solent) defeated Justin Scott (Wolverhampton) in the final to claim the trophy. Semi-finalists were Dan Nicholls (Yorkshire) and Martin Bellefontaine (London TFC). Hue thanks to the organizers for showing FISTF and WASPA circuits can work together. Way to go as it makes players happy to have more important games during the week-end.

The average age of entrants was close to 20 and six players travelled from different cities to play in "La Cave", the world-famous home of ST Stembert. Afther the group format, Lucas Père and Matthias averlant played the final. Averlant took the honors to claim his 7th WASPA regional title. Last Wednesday's Old Rules WASPA in Leicester

With a smaller than usual field of 6 local players took the opportunity to play a league format. "For added giggles crouching goalies were the order of the day and big balls were also used. We quickly exhausted all the big ball jokes and cliches ('til next time!) and soon got down to that special love and frustration we have for old school bases. Many a protracted scream that only an errant heavyweight can induce was heard throughout the night. Graham Harwood probably wins the frustrated rant award for screaming at Paul Taylor to "stop blocking my players!". An evening of great fun was had by all. For what it's worth Graham finished top of the evening's league with Paul as runner up", report Graham Harwood.
