WASPA records of July 2021 - Subbuteo results, rankings and statistics

Dear Subbuteo fans, here are the monthly updates of the WASPA circuit after the 24 régional tournament, 1 tournament played with the old rules and 2 test-matches held in July. Huge thanks to the organizers for giving us the feeling that things are slowly back to normal. This is very encouraging for the future and we are very happy to see more and more clubs holding tournaments under WASPA banner.

A great night of play in Derry, Northern Ireland

There were many tournaments in England in July and we can thank the different local organizers for promoting the game at regional level. We were also glad to see tournaments in Wrexham (Wales) and Derry (Northern Ireland).

Great tournament in Baden Baden, Germany

In other countries, the situation is also going better with two events held in Belgium, one in the Netherlands, one in the USA, two in Singapore, two in Greece, three in Australia but the "big hit" of the month was the tournament held in Baden Baden, Germany with six players from 5 different nations playing home and away games. Huge thanks to Milan Knezevic for hosting the event! Also special thanks to the H'Attard club in Malta for organizing another good event.

Players in Templeuve, Belgium

As for the rankings, congratulations to Alan Lee for being the new number 1 in the individual table. Alan is also the leader of the season ranking while Evangelos Kotrotsos is the best junior. England is on top of the rankings of nations while the best clubs are Subbuteo Perth (Top Clubs section), Johannesburg TFC (Development League) and London Road Subbuteo Club (Junior clubs).

Good turnout in Attard, Malta

In August, we will collect ideas to improve the circuit next season. The new season will start on September 1 and we hope that many clubs and players will be excited to take part!

WASPA standings of February 2021

 Dear all,

you will find in this message the usual files with the updated results, rankings and statistics of the WASPA circuit.

First WASPA tournament for the new club of Naxxar TFC in Malta

We are still aware that it(s complicated to run tournaments under WASPA banner in many countries but we are glad we added 11 tournaments and 4 "lockdown test matches" in the records.

February was a special month. Our friends from Singapore sent us three sets of results of past tournaments and we were glad to add them in the results. In italy, our mates in Firenze held their first two tournaments after a long break. We also got results from Patras (Greece), Brisbane, Perth and Sydney (Australia), Johannesburg (SOuth Africa) while the new club of Naxxar (Malta) held a very first tournament under WASPA banner.

WASPA test match in Norway between Riccardo Destefanis and Terje Ellefsen

The "WASPA lockdown test matches" are a new idea to give the possibility for isolated players to play some official games from times to times. We received results from Norway, Italy and Belgium and thanks to these "WASPA lockdown test matches", the clubs of Oslo, Kragero and Teramo managed to get their first ranking points this season. Maybe it's an idea to follow for those who are eager to play!

As you maybe know, we will celebrate the 10 years of the WASPA circuit in May. Your ideas to make something special are more than welcome. If you know what should be done to celebrate this important anniversary, your feedback is more than welcome.

The club of Firenze was back in action in Italy

Christmas cup for Mike Bradbury

Wolverhampton SFC hosted their first official Christmas Cup and Awards Evening on Sunday 17th December.  12 of the 15 club players turned out, and the tournament was  played in a handicap format giving less experienced players an opportunity to progress.  It was a tense evening with some very close games.  League winner, Mick Hammonds suffered the fate of a surprise quarter final exit to Mark Broadhurst who managed to hold on to his 3 goal advantage, winning 3-2.

Mark's glorious run of victories was brought to an end by Justin Scott in the Semi Finals, but it took a shoot out to get past him.  The final, Justin versus Mike Bradbury was a game of two halves.  First half a tight defensive affair, with neither player giving ground.  The second half was a goal fest, with 6 goals, 4 - 2 in Mike's favour.  It was a final worthy of an excellent evening of Subbuteo!  Next open event the WSFC Roy Holden Trophy, 28th January 2018.
Please visit Wolverhampton Subbuteo Football Club on Facebook for more information.

Mick Hammonds wins in Wolverhampton

10 players attended the tournament organized by Wolverhampton SFC earlier this month. The tournament was played with advanced rules. Mick Hammonds defeated Gage Badger in the final to take the honors. Justin Scott and Richard Badger were the semi-finalists.

"Another thoroughly enjoyable evening of subbuteo for WSFC. Despite some excellent performances from our youth players, Mick Hammonds took the title with some ruthless finishing to win 2-0 (after handicap adjustments). Congratulations to Mick, and to everyone who took part. A special mention as well to Gage Badger who made the final with some excellent play over the night - and it was his first ever tournament, too", reported Justin Scott.

Mike Bradbury wins 2017 Staffordshire Pro-Am tournament

On July 30 the Wolverhampton club and the South Staffordshire Club had another successful tournament with 16 players taking part and competing with the advanced rules. The "2017 Staffordshire Pro-Am" was held in the Wolverhampton Electric Club and had the visit of Australia's Rick Bland from Brisbane TSC. Other competitors were from the West Midlands and North Wales. Mike Bradbury took the honors as he defeated Richard Stock in the final. Justin Scott won the plate event and Cayne Matthews won the AM section. 6 Astroboards were used for the tournament and young Alex Scott competed in his event aged 11. Little Ruby Matthews once again proved what a future star she will become. Two radio stations and a regional newspaper featured the event which will become annual.
