The Finger Football Fiesta took place at the Hartamas Shopping Centre last weekend. For this maiden event, the players from Singapore; lead by Tan Kok Wee and John Ho, together with Vikash, Den Mulia, Haikal and Anas from the Jurong Central Subbuteo club made their presence felt with great enthusiasm and sportmanship. From the Hartamas Tigers TFC, the Juniors; Vishnuvarthanasundram, Sharvind v. Veera, Mohnish Rajakumaran and Phillip Arryan played to their best games on the first day. New senior players, Azril, Azrol and Lukman took part. A first for the Tigers, is our new lady player, Ms. Siti Hariza (or Gee). Jamie Kong, the Founder of the H.Tigers took part in both the Veteran and Open tournament categories.
The Open Final was an exciting game to watch, as Anas played his best game ever to hold out against Den Mulia forcing an equalizer of 1-1 at the end of the second half. With very tight formation, Anas made it supremely difficult for Den to score. But the Master won by scoring another 2 goals, making it a 3-1 score after the extra time of ten minutes.
The Veteran Final Match was between Den Mulia and Tan Kok Wee. Den Mulia won the match a 2-0 score proving that he has the steady nerves as a season veteran player. The Juniors Event was an all Malaysian affair without the presence of the Singapore juniors. All the boys are great friends off pitch but focus their rivalry to be the best in table football. Vishnuvarthana won with a 3-1 final score against Sharvind.
Dato and Datin Rajakumaran graced the occassion and the Dato Rajakumaran Cup was given to the Veteran Champion, Mr. Den Mulia. Dato Rajakumaran also presented the Junior's Trophy to the winners of the Junior Event. Michael Dent was on hand to give away the Open Trophy to Mr. Den Mulia and the players of the Open Category and also the QJ Rizal Cup donated by lawyer, Encik Rizal Bahari.
Thank you to everyone from all who helped the Hartamas Tigers TFC in the organization or this Event and also to YB. Khairy Jamaluddin for his patronage and the support of the Youth and Sports Ministry in endorsing the FF Fiesta for the sport of Subbuteo (table football).

Report of the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia
The Subbuteo Collectors
Fiesta on 30th August 2014 and
the Merdeka Cup Open
Tournament on 31st August, Malaysia National Day
at the Subbuteo Shop,
Hartamas Shopping Centre, Malaysia
Report by Jamie Kong
Singapore and Indonesia (the Batavia Garudas) came on both days to come
help celebrate our Subbuteo Fiesta for Collectors and also participate in the
inaugural Merdeka Cup Open tournament during our Malaysia National Day,
weekend. The Malaysians had a good showing with 8 players joining the Merdeka Cup
tournament, the Garudas (Majee, Dicky and Rudy) have been practicing all week
long and the Singapore contingent, lead by Kok Wee, John Ho, Vikas, Rizal and
Hashim.
The Subbuteo Fiesta is the first Collectors event for the Hartamas
Tigers TFC, to encourage a look at the Subbuteo phenomenon in Malaysia and
Singapore. Fess, our ardent Malaysian Subbuteo enthusiast, has a wonderful book
of past letters and records and his collectibles on display. Michael Dent graciously consented to display his England Subbuteo Trophy which he won in
1973, his 1974 World Cup pennant in Munich and his 1974 Farnum Trophy. For the
Fiesta, we have mini games for all the players and a Teams Double Match which
was won by John Ho and Kok Wee. Kaspar Bennett made a special appearance and
hosted the Best Keeper Challenge which was won by Kok Wee. Kok Wee managed to
stop the shots from Kaspar, 4 out of 5 times..
As the Event was held at the Subbuteo Shop, the visitors to the
Hartamas Shopping Centre were able to enjoy the entire tournament and also walk
into shop look at the world of table football. The players did not hold back
and all did their best to outdo their opponent. Michael Dent who qualified for
the semi-finals was held to a draw after extra time and was force into a shooting
elimination round. It was nerve racking as both players did not managed to
score any goals in their 5 attempts.
Michael scored the Golden Goal and went into the Final with Kok Wee who
also was given a difficult time by Vikas. Kaspar Bennett refereed the Final and
it was a close battle. Michael lost when Kok Wee
Managed to hold the score at 2-1. Everyone enjoyed the tournament and now, there
are 3 venues within South East Asia for closer ties and cooperation for more
exciting events to happen.

Annual Toongabbie tournament
Australia: Last year, Alex Jennings was able to fluke his way through two penalty shootouts to take glory in the annual September Cup Subbuteo Tournament from under the noses of former champions Phillip Parker and Adrian Elmer. Costa Kamarados and his Greeks put in a great run to the semi-finals while new boys and girls, Jono Wilkes, Brontë Scott, Dan Wilkes, Imojjen Elmer and Paul Gorjan learned a lesson or two along the way.Last season, for the first time, the tournament also gained the recognition of the World Amateur Subbuteo Players Association (WASPA) earning competitors world ranking points. With the added exposure that ensued, this season’s September Cup has the added interest of fellow Subbuteo enthusiasts from around NSW, meaning the competition will be heating up.
In keeping with the heritage of the tournament, competitors will only be permitted to compete using original Subbuteo figures and all matches will be played on glorious, original nylon Subbuteo pitches.
Flick off is at 3pm and there will be pizza, so bring along a few dollars as well as a drink.
Entry to the tournament is free.
The tournament is open to all players regardless of age, gender or Subbuteo experience. New players are always welcome and there’s plenty of equipment to borrow if you don’t have your own.
The tournament will be held at Adrian’s house in Toongabbie. If you don’t know the address, send message to Adrian at ajebec@netspace.net.au.
