Lincoln Flickers Yorkshire/Sheffield Invitational
Richard Stock (London Road SC) takes first prize at Lincoln Flickers first WASPA of the season despite an early setback; Andy Boyer won this tie 2-1 in a very tight affair. Boyer could have wrapped things up in round 4 but for Mat Akin spoiling the party with a 2-0 win. This left all 3 players on 9 points and so a 5th round was played. Richard wore Matty’s resilience and finished a comfortable 4-0 in the end while Boyer was held by Pascal Carrassi from Javea club Marina Citerior 2-2 for second on the day. Andrew Garbutt pipped Atkin into 3rd on goal difference, his highlight beating his Sheffield rival 3-0 in round 2; a fixture to be repeated next month when Andrew goes to play his Subaleague International match at the Jetpac Arena for the season’s 3 year finale.
The games of the tournament all involved Pascal; his 7-3 win over John Devaney a real humdinger! The 2-2 draw to Boyer and Connor Atkin holding Pascal 1-1 a great achievement. Connor received the Junior Star Award. Pascal’s daughter Lisa deserves a special mention for having tough games and her bravery in defeat – well done, keep going, you WILL get there! She left with a small trophy and a smile 😊
Sincere thanks to all who made it an enjoyable day. The next WASPA will be during Lincoln Christmas Market weekend Sunday 10 December for Copa del Santa – come join us!
