A 9th WASPA title for Bevin Reed

Saturday 14 October 2017, Pretoria, South Africa:
The 2017 edition of the League 2 Cup attracted a field of 12 entries, including debutant Chris Abrahamse visiting from the Centurion area of our province.
The event started with an exciting match between 2016 League 2 winner Bevin Reed and Kegan vd Merwe with Bevin registering a 1-0 win. Further Round 1 action
saw Gary Downs (Easterns TFC) record a 3-0 win over Sherwin Reed to lead the standings. Then, with only 2 minutes into his debut match Chris Abrahamse stunned Conway Julie to take a 1-0 lead, but after digging deep Conway levelled the match 6 minutes later - thereby avoiding a massive upset!
The pick of Round 2 matches saw an exciting match between Jayden vd Merwe and Gary Downs - with Jayden taking the lead and Gary getting an equaliser midway through the game, but with only 40 seconds left Jayden struck again to hand Gary his only defeat of the day.
Round 3 produced the match of the day between Chessray Jooste and Gary Downs - a round of applause sounded at the final whistle as the two players ended a 2-2 draw. Elsewhere, the impressive Stanton Nortjie beat Kegan vd Merwe by 1-0 to go into 2nd place on the standings!
In Round 4 action, Chessray & Jayden played out another thrilling 1-1 draw - the result not helping either's cause as Jayden had to settle for 3rd place overall & Chessray got the 4th spot.
Kegan then beat Julian vd Merwe by 1-0, but Julian got 5th place due to a superior goal difference over Kegan. Bevin's 1-0 victory over Marlin Boyd was a mere formality as Bevin had already secured the title as early as Round 3 - thanks to his dominant goal difference. Stanton continued his unbeaten run on the day by way of a 1-0 victory over Chris to clinch a surprising but well deserved second place. Imtiaz Ahmed then held the much fancied Gary Downs to a 0-0 draw, and Sherwin ended his day with a 1-0 victory over Conway.
A great day of Subbuteo action all round, with plenty of goals scored - with Bevin Reed lethal in front of goal, an effort which saw Bevin capture his 9th WASPA title to date!

As always, a big thank you to all who attended to make the day a great success.
