From times to times we receive news from Finland where the Subbuteo table football scene has several types of tournaments but the events with the Finnish rules remain very popular. Kari Hakkarainen reports the annual Finnish Championship tournament took place this week-end with 17 players taking part, which is the biggest number of entries in the whole 2000s.The organizing club was TFC Lynx and the tournament was held on Heinola. Marko Tiikkaja from Tampere had a glorious day and won the final against Jani Naapila.
There was also the first ever female player in the tournament, Nina Toiviainen. She learned the rules and flicking on Saturday and on Sunday she took part in the tournament. So, she had the very minimum experience about the game. Very surprisingly she could take a couple of draws. Local players had never seen anything like that before. Normally the beginners are just murdered 10-0 in every game.
In the tournament there was also a man who filmed the games and interviewed some players. There should be some video in youtube about the tournament in the near future.
There were also some people who came just to watch the games and didn’t know so much about the game before. The tournament was held on a workplace restaurant.
Congratulations to the local organizers for keeping the game alive!
