Monthly report of May 2015
Dear all, here is the monthly report of the WASPA ranking.
WASPA golden book
WASPA ranking of May 2015
May 2015 was simply fantastic with 31 regional tournaments and 5 promotional tournaments for a total of 36 events (new record).
We have now 1565 players from 39 nations in the ranking. Welcome Gibraltar! Brazil will be added next month. Enjoy the results, rankings and statistics!
In the attached file you will find all results of the tournaments played until now. Please note the results of the event played last week-end in Malaysia will be added next month.
This month, we were happy to see subbuteo action in 4 different States in the US (Michigan, Illinois, California, Pennsylvania), to have consolation tournaments played under WASPA banner at FISTF events (in Austria, England and Gibraltar), to have 9 tournaments (!) in England, to have some amazing development in Australia, to see a tournament with 22 players in Chile (with representatives from Ecuador, Colombia, New Zealand), to see the first tournament played in Swiss system in South Africa, to be present also in Italy, Hungary, Singapore, Belgium.
We are still growing and this is great news... ;-) Let's continue to work for the development of the game. Having many small events is helping much more than having a few big events.
Don't hesitate to ask for WASPA status if you are hosting some events. Just send a request to vincent.cop@rsca.com
Please note the blog is updated almost every day at http://waspa-circuit.blogspot.com

Have a great day and keep on flicking!

Report of the Finger Football Festival in Malaysia
The Finger Football Fiesta took place at the Hartamas Shopping Centre last weekend. For this maiden event, the players from Singapore; lead by Tan Kok Wee and John Ho, together with Vikash, Den Mulia, Haikal and Anas from the Jurong Central Subbuteo club made their presence felt with great enthusiasm and sportmanship. From the Hartamas Tigers TFC, the Juniors; Vishnuvarthanasundram, Sharvind v. Veera, Mohnish Rajakumaran and Phillip Arryan played to their best games on the first day. New senior players, Azril, Azrol and Lukman took part. A first for the Tigers, is our new lady player, Ms. Siti Hariza (or Gee). Jamie Kong, the Founder of the H.Tigers took part in both the Veteran and Open tournament categories.
The Open Final was an exciting game to watch, as Anas played his best game ever to hold out against Den Mulia forcing an equalizer of 1-1 at the end of the second half. With very tight formation, Anas made it supremely difficult for Den to score. But the Master won by scoring another 2 goals, making it a 3-1 score after the extra time of ten minutes.
The Veteran Final Match was between Den Mulia and Tan Kok Wee. Den Mulia won the match a 2-0 score proving that he has the steady nerves as a season veteran player. The Juniors Event was an all Malaysian affair without the presence of the Singapore juniors. All the boys are great friends off pitch but focus their rivalry to be the best in table football. Vishnuvarthana won with a 3-1 final score against Sharvind.
Dato and Datin Rajakumaran graced the occassion and the Dato Rajakumaran Cup was given to the Veteran Champion, Mr. Den Mulia. Dato Rajakumaran also presented the Junior's Trophy to the winners of the Junior Event. Michael Dent was on hand to give away the Open Trophy to Mr. Den Mulia and the players of the Open Category and also the QJ Rizal Cup donated by lawyer, Encik Rizal Bahari.
Thank you to everyone from all who helped the Hartamas Tigers TFC in the organization or this Event and also to YB. Khairy Jamaluddin for his patronage and the support of the Youth and Sports Ministry in endorsing the FF Fiesta for the sport of Subbuteo (table football).

Matteo Del Brocco on fire in Roma
On May 27 the WASPA Lazio League 2014/2015 had another great stage with 13 competitors taking part. Matteo Del Brocco was the champion of the night as he managed to stay calm to get the necessary point in the last game against Simone Trivelli. Matteo and Simone finish the tournament with 10 points but Matteo was winner thanks to be better difference in the "number of points taken by the opponents" (as the rules state it in Italy). Patrizio Lazzaretti and Gianmarco Del Brocco share the third place while Stefano Tagliaferri finishes int he top 5. Simone Trivelli is the leader of the WLL 2014/2015 with 130 points and only one stage to play. Patrizio Lazzaretti (106) and Gianmarco Del Brocco (103) are also in the top 3 of the general ranking.

Andrew Bennett wins the Woody Point Cup
4th Tournament, Woody Point Cup.
May 31, 2015
The first tournament at the new clubhouse proved to be a very good day for all attending. New tables and plenty of space, well organised and great fun.The same 5 players from the previous tournament contested this one, with some different results.
The initial round of games had the much improved Gus Gillespie leading the league table, setting up a semi final with Rik Bland. Gus proved too good, and took the victory 2-0.
The other semi final between Giuseppe Tardiota and Andrew Bennett was a goal fest, with Andrew defeating the 3 time champion 4-2.
Rik finally beat Giuseppe after losing the previous 3 tournaments in the final, but on this occasion it was for 3rd place.
The final between Gus and Andrew was tight, and went into extra time. Gus drew first blood, and was within seconds of a fantastic victory, but Andrew showed his quality with a very late strike, sending this final to a shootout. Still level after 5 shots, they headed to sudden death, and eventually Andrew got the decisive goal, and with it the trophy!
Home win for Rudy Hesty
The month of May came in a flash & once again it was our club league WASPA games. A total of 11 players came but only 8 participated as we wanted the other 3 newbies to have more games among themselves before playing with the other club members.
Players were randomly drawn into 2 groups with Group A comprising of seasoned club members, Nic, Bolkiah, Fauzi & Irshad while Group B comprised of Ding Heng, Quan Feng, Rudy & Seng Heng.
With only the top player of each group qualifying for the final, it had to be settled with the last group game to ensure group A winner. Both Nic & Fauzi cruised pass their 2 other opponents easily and the final game between them was very tensed. In the end, the cooler player, Fauzi solitary goal was enough to ensure his 1st ever WASPA final where the group leader Rudy was waiting after the latter had won all his group games.
Final: Fauzi vs Rudy was played on the club "X-men arena" stadium. The club's new ASTRO pro pitch with Tcha goals was ready for the bog occasion. The game started as expected with Rudy attacking from the start but time & time again, Fauzi goalkeeping brilliance, keep the ball from going in. The crowd was expecting a goalless scoreline however Rudy manage to squeeze a shot pass the almost unstoppable keeper with 3 minutes left. 1-0 it stayed and Rudy was once again crown Jurong WASPA winner.
