Brian Daley wins the Parrot Cup

On Sunday London Road Subbuteo Club was holding the club's monthly tournament at The Parrot, Druty.

8 players were competing and the special guest of the day was Belgium's Jos Ceulemans.

In the semis, Brian Daley defeated Cayne Matthews while Jos Ceulemans took the best on Martin Blanchard.

Brian later beat Jos (2-0) in the final. Dave Kelly defeated Mark Tillin in the Plate final.

Thanks to Cayne for another great day of table football.

Friday night WASPA in Melbourne

WFW36 - The Big Willy II!
A fun night of flicking where 7 players enjoyed a simple round Robin comp.

Benny won the event undefeated, followed closely by Adrian Connolly - playing in his first WASPA after recovering from testicular cancer treatment - in 2nd spot.

It was a fun chill night of flicks for all... GO PELICANS!!

Marcel Schulz winner in Kamen!

This Saturday the International Open of Kamen took place in germany with many international visitors. After the group stage, players out of the main event could play a WASPA tournament and 24 players were taking part. After the group stage (8 groups of 3), the knock-out stage was quite interesting to follow.

In the semi-finals, local player Marcel Schulz defeated Alfred Strommer (Austria) while Fabrizio Cavazza from the Netherlands defeated Serbia's Milan Knezevic.

The final saw Marcel Schulz emerging in the second half (2-0) to claim the trophy.

Congratulations to Marcel and huge thanks to the organizers for offering a great consolation event to the competitors.

Maikel de Haas and Xavier Aret winners in Gouda

In the Netherlands, Maikel de Haas won the "Champion's League" tournament, which was a the final event of the season. The Charleroi player ended on top of a group of five. In the "Europa League", Xavier Aret Took the honors, also finishing on top of another group of five. There will be another competition starting in September in Gouda with hopefully some more players taking part.

Rudy Hesty wins TFAS League July tournament

TFAS league week 5 on 21st July 2019 had 7 players notably Luca Maida who was making his debut in the league. The games were played in 5 rounds Swiss style format and games were played in the traditional 15 minutes per half.

Recent Perth IO winner Bernard Lim could not continue his good form as he stumbled to 3 defeats and was made to sweat before winning 4-3 against Luca. The battle of the Italians, Enzo vs Luca ended in an exciting 5 goals thriller with the latter winning 2-3. Alas, the overall winner was Rudy from Club Jurong, with the decided game was against his club mate, Anas 4-1 being the turning point, as Rudy edged out his club mate by 3 points to win July monthly League games.

First tournament in Wrexham

Wrexham Subbuteo Club WASPA

Four new players from Wrexham (Tyler Bevan, Michael Harper, Kai Humfieys and Regan Cowan) were joined by Ruby Matthew (London Road) and Lucasz Whittle (Liverpool) to play their first event in Wrexham last week-end. All players had a great time and look forward to playing again next month.

Heatwave of Pennsylvania 2019 tournament

Daniel Cranston receives trophy from Bryan Arnold

The Heatwave of Pennsylvania 2019 tournament was held in Avondale, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 20th. Six players competed for this summer's title: Daniel Cranston, Gregg Deinhart, Andrew Zunino, Bryan Arnold, Braden Deinhart, and Nick Deinhart. The tournament was Daniel's first competitive action since May but he was excellent throughout. Daniel won the final against Gregg, 2-1, in a match of awesome flicking and tactics from both players. Andrew and Bryan were semifinalists: Andrew lost in a close match to Daniel, 0-2; Bryan lost to Gregg for the second match on the day with a score of 0-1. Congratulations to both Braden and Nick Deinhart on a great barrage final ,which ended as a draw, 0-0, after regular time and overtime, with Nick winning the shootout 0-2. Graceful competition and comradery abounded throughout the day. Thank you to Andrew Zunino for hosting the event.

Bevin Reed wins the 2019 Gold Cup

Saturday 13 July 2019, Pretoria, South Africa : 
The big question on everybody's mind was whether Jayden vd Merwe would make it 5 straight wins in this event - as Jayden has captured every edition of this event since it's inception back in 2015? Having already won it 3 times in a row between 2015 - 2017, the "original" Gold Cup was permanently handed over to Jayden where it is proudly displayed on his bookshelf in his bedroom!!!
Round 1 action saw Jayden record a lucky but hard fought 1-0 victory over Julian vd Merwe where Julian tested Jayden's goalkeeping skills on no more than two occasions. Conway Julie took a 1-0 lead over Kegan vd Merwe, but Kegan soon scored afterwards to restore parity. Bevin Reed then raced to top spot thanks to a 2-0 win over Gary Downs.
Round 2 saw Gary score an acutely sliced shot (at pace) to register a 1-0 win over Julian - a stunning goal certainly worthy of "Goal of the Day". Bevin had to grind out a 1-0 win over Kegan to remain top. Then….the MAJOR upset of the day, as Conway took a 2-0 lead over Jayden - this spurred Jayden into action with him getting 1 back, but all too late as Conway recorded a famous 2-1 over tournament favourite Jayden!
The pick of Round 3 saw the massive clash between Bevin and Jayden - the result went Jayden's way by 1-0, a "must win" for Jayden following the Round 2 disaster against Conway. That result also saw Jayden tie Bevin on 4 points on the standings - with the added comfort that Jayden was ahead on the "head to head" rule. Gary then dispatched of an "out of form" Kegan by 2-0, with Gary then joining Jayden and Bevin on 4 points overall!
In Round 4, Gary and Jayden played out to a 0-0 stalemate with both players missing out to go top. Bevin then topped the standings by himself with a 1-0 win over Conway. Earlier, the battle for 5th spot ended in a 0-0 draw between Kegan and Julian.
The business end of things - Round 5 saw Gary and Conway play out a 0-0 draw in the battle for 3rd spot, with the draw being enough to hand Gary a well deserved 3rd place finish. Jayden then offered himself a glimmer of hope to hold onto his title by recording a 1-0 win over Kegan. It was Bevin who would have the last say - as he completely dominated to record a 2-0 win over Julian and thereby breaking Jayden's 4 year reign as Gold Cup Champion!
Jayden will certainly look back at the Round 2 horror against Conway and the Round 4 stalemate against Gary as the defining moments when he had to "let go" of what has become his favourite event on the PFC calendar. Taking nothing away from Bevin - a well deserved triumph as Bevin occupied top spot from "start to finish". This latest triumph then also marks Bevin Reed's 14th WASPA title to date!

News from Australia - Action in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney

Australia has been one of the most active nations in the WASPA circuit in the last few weeks. Some results have not been published yet so here is a summary.

In Perth, local players competed in their June tournament. Yan Yew Loy managed to win another tournament after finishing on top of a group of five with Alan Kimber being runner-up. Later in June, Perth players had the visit of Singapore Tan Kok Wee and Tan Yi De. Tan Kok Ween won the small gathering after finishing on top of a group of four.

Brisbane also held a tournament with the usual players. Gus Gillespis defeated Giuseppe tardiota in the final to claim to trophy while Gareth Whalley won the game for the third place against New Zealand's Gareth Whalley.

Melbourne TFC was also in action in June with a tournament attracting the neighbor players of the Northern Phoenix club. Luke Radziminski finished on top of a group of 4 with Paul Mercer being runner-up.

In the first day of July, Sydney TFC was holing a tournament in their new venue. Fabrizio Coco defeated Daniele Lombardi on shots in the final while Hermann Kruse and Kostas Barbaris made it to the semis. 9 players were taking part.

Another event held under the banner of Melbourne TFC was played in July with a great field of players and Banji Batten took the honors after defeating Luke Radziminski.

Northern Falcons tournament (report by Steve Dettre)

Sydney TFC's Fabrizio made the long trek north to the final farewell event for Hermann Kruse, Oli and Hermine Ollnow and recovered from a slow start to claim the Northern Falcons WASPA #5-2019.

With Hermann, Oli and Hermine due to fly back to Germany next Monday, a suitable send-off was staged, with Melbourne's Paul Mercer flying up specially for the evening, and Johnny Ball delaying his drive back to Canberra to play.

Group one started sensationally, with Steve taking a 3-0 lead against Fabrizio before Fab pulled a late goal back. Fab then edged Western Sydney's Adrian Elmer 1-0, before Adrian bowed out with a 2-0 loss to Steve.

Eliot Kennedy and Oli took top spots in Group 2, with Johnny Ball and Neil Brener pushing them hard. In Group 3, Hermann and Paul dominated, but Jonty Brener pushed them all the way. The Barrage matches saw Fab start hitting his form, eliminating Hermann 2-0, before Oli beat Paul 1-0 on shots.

Oli then kept his edge over Steve, scoring in the first three minutes and holding off persistent pressure in the second period, while Fabrizio scored 30 seconds from time to beat Eliot 2-1. In the final, Fab was in full force and ran out a 2-0 winner.

Many thanks to all who attended, and to the Willoughby Park club. We look forward to hearing of the exploits of Hermann, Oli and Hermine in Germany.

Carlos Flores wins WASPA tournament held in Alicante, Spain

Here are some facts about what happened in June:
- we added 40 more tournaments in the records;
- we have reached 3500 different players in the database (players who have at least played one WASPA tournament since the launch of the circuit);
- we have reached the 2000 WASPA regional tournaments;
- Jeremiah Sanya from Uganda has played in the recent tournament in Cape Town so we have now 50 different nations in the ranking (players from 62 nations have played since the launch of the circuit);
- The fight for the title of "top club of the year" is very close between Northern Falcons TFC (Australia), Flaming Flickers SC (Greece) and London Road Subbuteo Club (Wales) with just a few points difference between the three of them with two months left to go to decide the winner;
- Australians dominate the Junior rankings, which proves once again Europeans have a lot to learn from what's being down Down Under;
- Romania's Cezar Stoilescu took advantage of his work trip in Belgium to play several WASPA tournaments;
- Hungary held their first tournament of the season to celebrate the visit of Sven Schilling (Germany);
- a great WASPA tournament was played during the Asian Cup in Singapore with players from Australia, Singapore and Japan;
- Northern Ireland's Simon Stewart is moving to Hamburg (Germany) and will hopefully become an ambassador of the WASPA circuit in Germany;
- in Spain the tournament in a shopping mall in Odara, Alicante had some special guests with former FISTF world champions Carlos Flores and Alberto Mateos taking part;
- The Masters tournament in Bagworth (England) had good games over two days and a very high level of play and great winners (Elliot Bellefontaine and Chris Thomas);
- The Dutch National Cup was played by 20 players. Besides Maikel de Haas being crowded in the main event, there were also tournaments for ladies and juniors;
- The Stoke on Trent tournament was a success. The event played with advanced rules had a great field of 29 entries!

For next season a few projects are already in the books so your feedback is more than welcome to see how we can achieve this:

If some juniors (born in 2002 or later) don't appear in the ranking, it means we don't have their birthdates so please send your feedback.
