Gregg Deinhart of the Washington Tuesday Subbuteo League and Bryan Arnold of NoVA Union Subbuteo Club were very glad to host their first combined effort in hosting the inaugural 2018 Virginia Heatwave tournament, which was held in Alexandria, Virginia USA. It was an awesome friendly and competitive tournament ending with a proficient display by Daniel Cranston to win the title against his foe, Paul Eyes. Congratulations to Austin Reinhart for winning the barrage bracket final against runner up Braden Reinhart! And a big greeting to Rick Wilcox for returning to the game after several years away. Gregg and Bryan hope this tournament is just the first of many!

Daniel Cranston winner in Virginia

Second WASPA title for Sean Tidy
The Tucson Subbuteo Soccer Club Summer tournament was held at BlackRock Brewers brewery on June 23rd in Tucson, Arizona. Six players attended so we split into two groups, seeded with the first and second place player from our Spring league. The first tournament in Portland
Portland Table Soccer Club held their first tournament last week-end with Jonathan Smith of the Boise USL club coming as a special guest. There were 8 players taking part and the round robin ended as follows:Jonathan D Smith 21

First and second place played for the Rocky Martin Memorial Portland Cup. Jonathan beat Simon 4-0 while coaching him heavily. You can draw your own inferences from the fact that PTSC's top finisher was 10 years old. "It was so much fun! I'm exhausted, but it was so much fun! Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make it possible. Special thanks to Jonathan D Smith for traveling here from Idaho to represent BUSL and show our humble club the ropes. Daniel Cranston is 2018 Pennsylvania Open Champion

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Open was played in Avondale, PA. Andrew Zunino was the host of the tournament and 8 players were competing.The group stage had 2 groups of 4 players. the top 2 form each group later competed in another group to decide the 2018 Pennsylvania Open Champion. Paul Eyes and Andrew Zunino qualified in group A while Daniel Cranston and Matthew Steinmuller finished on top of group B.
The Pennsylvania Open group had some great games but in the end Daniel Cranston won the group after winning his decisive game against runner-up Paul Eyes (2-0). The Keystone Cup saw other good games and Bryan Arnold finished on top of the group with 7 points after a tie against Adolfo Colindres.
A good day was had by all. Huge thanks to Andrew for organizing the event under WASPA banner!

Peter Alegi wins Flicko de Mayo

The first round of group play featured some exciting games. Erik Haefke held Alegi to a fiercely contested 1-1 draw, while Chris Sweetland scored the only goal against Paul Pate in a crucial head-to-head match. IIias Gikas bounced back from two early losses with a string of impressive wins. Alex Galarza and Joe Legatz put in solid performances as well.
In the semifinals, Haefke fought off Gikas’s comeback and Alegi took care of Sweetland. Alegi’s shooting touch was on fine display in the final, which he won 5-1 over Haefke.
In the last event of the day, Chicago TSC defeated Grand Rapids TSC 2-1 in the Great Lakes Cup (Team Challenge).

WASPA test-match: Northern Californie vs California TSC
On Wednesday, March 28th, Conan Mullen (SoCo Subbuteo) of the Northern California Subbuteo Club hosted Paul O'Donovan Rossa of the California Table Soccer Club in the first ever "Northern California" WASPA Test Match. Paul made the journey up from Southern California for an evening of friendly and competitive Subbuteo matches, and handily took the Test Match honors, winning the 3-match series 2-1, 3-1, and 4-0. After which there were more training matches woth Paul sharing his experience and passing on valuable coaching tips to help Conan gear up for the California Table Soccer Club's upcoming Los Angeles FISTF Satellite/ASA Open in Newbury Park on April 7th.

A first tournament in Tucson
The first Tucson Subbuteo Soccer Club tournament was held at BlackRock Brewers brewery on March 3rd. Six players attended so we split into two groups, seeded with the first and second place player from our previous seven week league. This setup the semi-finals matches. The match of James vs Trevor ended scoreless, and went to PK's. Sean vs Chuck went down to the wire, with many shots on goal for both players along with excellent saves. Sean managed to score with 13 seconds remaining, making it to the finals.

A first test match in Florida
A test match was conducted between Dario Passadore and Bryan Arnold, members of the American Subbuteo Association, on February 16th. Dario, of the Florida Sharks Subbuteo Club, showed his great skill and style during each of his three wins on the day. A spirited defense and counter attacking were offered by Bryan, of the NoVA Union Subbuteo Club, but he was never able to present more competitiveness against his opponent, a long time Subbuteo player.Test Match scores:

Lake Effect Trophy in Michigan
Organizing a tournament in winter in Michigan is what makes Grand Rapids TSC’s Lake Effect Trophy special. Even heavy snow accumulation on Sunday, February 11, could not stop Paul Pate and Joe Legatz from driving 70 miles (120km) from Grand Rapids to East Lansing! Four players completed a round robin, and then in the semifinals Paul beat Joe 1-0 on a spectacular long shot, while Peter defeated newcomer Bernardo Maestrini. In the final, Peter ran away with the match against Paul in the second half to claim the 2018 Lake Effect Trophy. In the consolation final, Joe beat Bernardo to take third place.

Test matches in the US, Hong Kong and Spain
Several test matches have been organized in January.
In the United States, there was a test-match in Avondale, PA between Andrew Zunino (Pennsylvania) and Bryan Arnold (Virginia). Andrew won the series (1-0) after winning the first game and sharing points in the other 2 games (3-0, 2-2, 0-0).
Hong Kong saw also the come-back of some action under WASPA banner during the visit of Australia's Eliot Kennedy. Antonio Carabillo and Eliot played several games and Antonino ended as winner on goal-difference (3-1, 1-2, 2-2).
In Spain, Pasquale Carrassi (Italy) met David McAulay (Scotland) on January 20 and they played 5 games (instead of 3) with a final result of 4-1 for Pasquale.

Peter Alegi takes WASPA Connecticut Holiday
The WASPA Connecticut Holiday is in the books and so is the 2017 for our club. Many thanks to our gracious host Miguel Marques, to tonight's gracious winner Peter Subbuteo and to our new friend Domenico Venezia. Honorable mention this year for Andrew Zunino and Andy Sbongalo, just two great guys. May 2018 be filled with health, happiness and a full load of Subbuteo games!

Northern California is back on the map
A first tournament after a long time was held in Santa Rosa, Northern California last Sunday. Conan Mullen took the honors and finished on top of the table after winning his three games. Pater Vahle was runner-up. It was nice to see the local groupe getting together after some time. the club recently lost one player who moved back to Greece and is hoping to find some new players. The "Northern California Subbuteo Club" are now hoping to get some more opportunities to play in the near future.

Daniel Cranston wins the Old Bay Cup

Maryland Subbuteo Club (MSC) was delighted to host Gareth Christie from Scotland in early November. In his honor, the club hosted a tournament played using a Swiss Ladder format. Nine player attended on a fun evening in the fabled Shrine. Gareth got to sign “The Wall” as part of the evenings festivities. The semi final rounds saw very tight matches between Christie and Cranston, and Eyes and Deinhart. Cranston and Deinhart prevailed to reach a closely contested final. Cranston secured the title with a 2-1 win in overtime.

Daniel Cranston is Delaware Valley Open Champion
The 2017 Delaware Valley Open took place last Sunday in Avondale, PA with a good turnout of 10 players. The Open champion was Daniel Cranston who defeated Gregg Deinhart 4–0 to capture his third straight Delaware Valley Open Title, his forth Delaware Valley Open title overall. In the semis, Daniel Cranston defeated Andrew Giffen 3–2 in overtime while Gregg Deinhart defeated Paul Eyes 2–1 in a shoot-out when Gregg scored on his first three shots in the shoot-out while Paul was only able to score on his first two attempts. The score of the shoot-out was 3–2.The consolation event, called "Mushroom Cup" saw Bryan Arnold defeating Grant Lilly 2-1 in overtime to win his first Mushroom Cup.

A first tournament in Nevada City
The weekend of Oct 6-8, a WASPA Promotional tournament was scheduled by the California TSC, to welcome long-time flickers to compete in an official rules competition. Nevada City, California provided a perfect weekend for outdoor play! The competition was balanced and many matches displayed excellent skill. Varant Kurkeyerian edged out Al deKelaita for the Open title. In a U6 friendly, Leif Bloomstrand showed off his ability and is destined to be a future flicker!

NoVA Union Subbuteo Club hosted the 2017 PlayHard Championship this weekend in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. It was a great day of competition and fun for all. Home win for Peter Alegi
Grand Rapids TSC hosted a small tournament in East Lansing, Michigan, on Sunday, August 27, in honor of our visitor from Chicago: Ilias Gikas.
The nice weather allowed us to play some games outdoors and everyone enjoyed themselves. It all came down to the final round of matches. Peter Alegi defeated Ilias to top the table and Paul beat Joe to claim third place.

Kye Arnold wins in Florida
July 22nd, Orlando, Florida7 players had a great days play with Garage Soccer hosting a tournament at the Dead Lizard Brewing Co’ in Orlando, Florida, USA. The early games saw some close matches between the local players however the English and Kent pair of Kye and Terry Arnold had an clear edge over their opponents in the early rounds. The Semi-finals saw Kye overpower Shervin 8-0 whilst Terry gained a 5-1 victory over Chris. The final saw a convincing 4-1 victory for unbeaten Kye over Terry but sportsmanship and fun was the real winner on the day with a great atmosphere and everyone having a great time.
Many Thanks to Pat and the Garage Soccer team for arranging a brilliant tournament and they will be hosting more events in Florida in the future.
